We appreciate the shout out, Latarsha B.! And we are so happy to support and celebrate this very American holiday; at the same time recognizing that our democracy is still very much a work in progress. But, if we use the past to learn and self-reflect in the present, we can be better human beings in the present and future. #Juneteenth Princeton Hydro

Etobicoke residents came together for a organizing drive that culminated in the launch of new campaign priorities at the Rexdale Community Hub. Among the key demands: real rent control on all units, doubling Ontario Works and ODSP rates, and capping grocery prices. During the event, the local ACORN chapter elected its new board, with Monique Gordon as chair, Jason Laguerre as co-chair, and Rori Senior as secretary, signaling a strong commitment to community leadership. Etobicoke residents are standing up for change and proving that grassroots organizing works.

Denmark's "Garden City" model, particularly in urban planning and community design, focuses on integrating green spaces and fostering strong community connections. The concept of Community Circles ties into this model by creating spaces that encourage neighborly interaction, sustainability, and collaboration. Here’s an overview of this approach: 1. The Garden City Concept The Garden City movement was founded by Sir Ebenezer Howard in the early 20th century, and it inspired urban planning around the world, including in Denmark. The idea was to design cities with a blend of urban and rural elements, incorporating gardens, green spaces, and communal areas where people could live close to nature. In Denmark, this has been taken a step further with a focus on creating self-sustaining, eco-friendly neighborhoods that emphasize local community interaction, environmental sustainability, and green infrastructure. 2. Community Circles: Building Stronger Neighborhoods Denmark’s "Community Circles" are an extension of this idea, where the physical and social structure of a neighborhood is designed to encourage collaboration, shared resources, and close-knit relationships. These "circles" are not literal but represent interconnectedness in the community, fostering: Social interaction: Designed to create opportunities for neighbors to engage with one another regularly. Shared spaces: Including gardens, parks, and communal areas, where people can gather, share meals, and participate in community activities. Sustainability: Many of these communities have shared gardens or eco-friendly infrastructure such as solar panels, waste recycling programs, and community energy systems. 3. Designing for Sustainability and Connectivity Danish urban planning places a strong emphasis on sustainable design, which is reflected in garden cities and community circles. In such neighborhoods: Eco-friendly buildings: Constructed using sustainable materials, energy-efficient systems, and green roofs. Cycling-friendly design: Denmark is known for its focus on cycling as an eco-friendly form of transportation. Community circles often feature bike paths and car-free areas to prioritize walkability and reduce carbon emissions. Local food production: Community gardens and urban farming initiatives are often a key feature, encouraging residents to grow their own food, share resources, and reduce food waste. 4. Benefits of Community Circles in Garden Cities Increased social capital: Stronger community ties lead to greater social support, trust, and collaboration among residents. Enhanced well-being: Proximity to nature, green spaces, and communal activities improves physical and mental health. Resilience and sustainability: These communities are often better equipped to handle environmental challenges, such as climate change, through shared resources and sustainable practices. I’ve been wanting to visit We The Curious since moving to Bristol, and today I finally got the chance to! Having reopened after a fire tore through the building in 2022, I went over to find out exactly what visitors can expect - tune in to Love and Science on BCFM next Monday to hear what I got up to! #science #scienceradio #sciencecentre #wethecurious #bcfm #scienceeducation #sciencenews #bristol #bristolnews
And we're OPEN! After 2 years, 2 months and 22 days of being closed, our doors are finally open once again. We've made a lot of new friends while we've been closed, running activities and workshops in schools, libraries and community events across the city, but it's just wonderful to have our building back. To hear it come alive with the familiar sound of people having a great time together is just magic. Thank you to everyone who has supported us on this journey, and to our amazing, resilient staff and volunteers. Come and see us soon 😊🌈🚀 📷 Lisa Whiting

As a Rotarian, I've witnessed the remarkable power of community firsthand. But Rotary is just one example. What remarkable community are you a part of? Whether it's a group that shares your passions, supports your growth, or uplifts your spirits, take a moment to celebrate the communities that shape who you are. Together, let's recognize the extraordinary impact of belonging. #CommunityEngagement #RemarkableJourneys #Rotary #Rotary7670
