Earlier this week, Common Desk at Energy Square hosted a Veterans Day celebration to honor the courageous men and women who have bravely served our country. 🇺🇸 A huge thank you to Karis Childres and Alexandra Sempek for organizing such a meaningful event, complete with a beautiful National Anthem performance and a catered lunch. Your thoughtful planning made this day truly special. We were grateful for the chance to celebrate our teammates, Matthew Bova and Keith McHone (not pictured) and all veterans who have dedicated their lives to serving our nation with honor. #VeteransDay #HonoringOurHeroes #Gratitude

Veterans Day in 2024 is a moment for the nation to pause and express its heartfelt gratitude to the men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces. Observed annually on November 11, this day not only commemorates the end of World War I but serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by countless individuals who dedicated themselves to defending the ideals of freedom, democracy, and peace. In 2024, as the world navigates complex geopolitical challenges and the ongoing pursuit of global stability, the importance of honoring those who have ensured the nation’s safety and liberty resonates more deeply than ever. To be free is to live in a society where individual rights and choices are protected, where speech is uninhibited, and where opportunities are open to all, regardless of background. It is the cherished privilege to wake up each day with the ability to make decisions about one’s life, future, and beliefs without fear of repression. This freedom, however, is not without cost. Veterans embody the spirit of sacrifice and commitment to preserving these core values, often enduring immense personal hardships, time away from loved ones, and the risks of combat. Their service acts as a steadfast shield for the liberties that Americans hold dear. Reflecting on Veterans Day invites everyone to remember that freedom is not an abstract concept; it is a living testament to the resolve of millions who have come before us, fought on foreign shores, and protected the homeland through selfless service. It is a day to remind ourselves that freedom’s true value is measured not only by the benefits it brings but also by the resilience and dedication of those who ensure it endures. In celebrating Veterans Day, Americans reaffirm their commitment to never take these liberties for granted and to honor those who have made that possible with courage and unwavering dedication. #veteransday

As I reflect on Veterans Day, I find myself focused deeply on those who wore our nation's uniform. They asked for nothing in return, yet gave everything. Even in times when society turned its back, they remained steadfast in their duty. While we've seen periods of genuine appreciation for our veterans, I worry that the true meaning of this day has begun to fade. During my time as CEO of Synergis Education, I made it a priority to honor our veterans meaningfully. Now, I challenge other business leaders to go beyond the customary email of thanks. These men and women took an oath to defend our Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic. They worked countless hours for modest pay, knowing they might be called upon to make the ultimate sacrifice at freedom's altar. To all companies reading this: Make Veterans Day more than a symbolic gesture. Grant your employees both Veterans Day and Memorial Day as paid holidays. This isn't about virtue signaling—it's about honoring those who ensure our freedoms: of speech, of movement, and all the liberties that make our nation exceptional. To all veterans: Your service matters. Your sacrifice matters. And you deserve more than just our words—you deserve our actions. As a veteran myself, I've walked this path. I know firsthand what service means, and that makes this call to action even more personal. #VeteransDay #Leadership #CorporateResponsibility

Veterans Can… will be formally launched on the 20th Jun this year and there will be 3 key themes to the work the CIC does; Connection. Veterans have a unique past and many chose to serve on, so Veterans Can… enables this connectivity and creates the means of bringing together those who’ve served one nation and now live or work in another. Additionally we will host an exciting and engaging way for Veterans around the world to support and connect with one and other - all while doing good. Community. There will be an independent and autonomous Veterans Can… community app to assist in fostering the sense of camaraderie around the world. In addition, the Veterans Can… community will select a relevant and positive project to provide funding for - and properly get behind. Celebration. Not all Veterans flounder, suffer or struggle - in fact most don’t. While acknowledging some have a tough time, the support available is better than ever and it’s only right to celebrate success to inspire others. More Veterans are made by their time in the military than are broken by it, so Veterans Can… will recognise this - and shout about it.

1. Women veterans have played crucial roles in every conflict since the Revolutionary War, yet their contributions are often overshadowed by their male counterparts, leading to a lack of recognition and appreciation for their service. 2. Despite making up about 10% of the veteran population, women veterans face unique challenges, including gender-specific healthcare needs and higher rates of homelessness, underscoring the need for tailored support services. 3. The stories of women veterans are powerful testimonies of resilience and courage, breaking stereotypes and inspiring future generations, but these narratives are frequently underrepresented in media and historical accounts. 4. Women veterans often encounter a "double invisibility" in both the military and civilian sectors, struggling to have their service acknowledged and their transition back to civilian life supported adequately. 5. Recognizing and honoring the service of women veterans is not only a matter of justice and equality but also enriches our understanding of military history and strengthens the support networks for all veterans. Blessed to have gotten the chance to attend the Women’s Veteran Gala with my beautiful forever date. Such a powerful event to honor all those women past and present for their service to our nation.
This past weekend, Lifeskills' Regional Director of Clinical Partnerships and Army Veteran Tim B. and his wife attended the Northeast Florida Women Veteran’s Gala. It was a truly inspiring evening to celebrate and recognize our Nation's Women Veterans where guests were privileged to hear personal accounts from incredible Women Veterans, some of whom served as far back as WWII. Many do not know, but June 12th is National Women Veteran’s Day, honoring those who have and continue to serve our country. Did you know that women veterans represent a significant and growing segment of our armed forces? Over the years, their contributions have not only impacted the branches in which they served but also changed the trajectory of our country, from pioneering roles in medicine and logistics to leadership positions that have shaped military strategy—their influence is profound! This event was a testament to their bravery, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to service. Let's continue to honor and support our women Veterans every day. Lifeskills is proud to be an approved Community Care Network provider through the VA and certified as a Veteran-Ready organization by PsychArmor. Please reach out to Timothy Bowman if he can be a resource for any Veteran needs: timothy.bowman@lifeskillssf.com. #lifeskillssouthflorida #mentalhealthtreatment #behavorialhealth with — Lifeskills Orlando Lifeskills South Florida Outpatient Center

Women powered WWII, but we didn't profit from the #wartime #economy. Women's contributions to the manufacturing workforce, technology development and single-parenting were essential to U.S. military power projection. But who got rich? The dudes. As we head into another wartime economy, I am so grateful to Plum Alley Ventures Company for hosting this event in NYC to introduce women investors to top defense tech VC and companies. May the next Bill Knudsen be a woman (because the next Henry J. Kaiser is definitely me). We Honor Our Veterans Today and Everyday! What are some ways we can support veterans beyond just Veterans Day? Supporting veterans year-round can be as simple as volunteering with veteran organizations, hiring veterans, or advocating for policies that support their healthcare and education. Building relationships and showing appreciation goes a long way. How can we make sure we’re giving veterans the recognition they truly deserve? True recognition comes through consistent actions. This includes listening to their stories, addressing their needs, and making space for their voices in both the workplace and our communities. Acknowledging their experience with sincerity is key. Why is it so important to honor veterans, especially in today’s world? Honoring veterans is a way of preserving the values of service, sacrifice, and freedom. In a fast-paced world, we often take these things for granted, but remembering veterans helps remind us of the price of those freedoms and ensures their contributions are never forgotten.
