"The Defense Department wants to bring Silicon Valley’s top talent deeper into the folds of the military by offering technology executives positions as part-time military officers. The department is considering asking chief technology officers and other senior tech professionals to take up high-ranking positions in the reserves. The tech reservists would be periodically summoned to help with short-term projects in cybersecurity, data analytics and other areas. We’re creating this people industrial base that is going to help us solve our national-security problems and national-security challenges in the decades to come,” said Brynt Parmeter, the department’s chief talent management officer. The Marines and some states have created recruiting programs for civilians with cybersecurity skills, and the armed forces have reserve programs for medical and legal professionals. This latest initiative, however, would be the first time the armed forces bring in private-sector technology professionals as uniformed, paid reservists to leverage their know-how. The plans haven’t been previously reported." https://lnkd.in/epVrhbvQ

Brandon Smart Comments were turned off so I will repost with a couple questions. What does this statement mean (paragraph 6.) "provide them with training to earn the title of Marine" Does this mean they do not attend the traditional recruit training at either depot, OCS, or earn the title Marine through the Naval Acadamy? Is there a proposal to make Marines in another manner? Then further down at paragraph 11.c. 11.c. Non-Prior Service. Applicants must complete Marine Corps recruit training. Why the two statements? The first one is ambiguous. Paragraph 6 should state that they will attend one of the three established ways of becoming a Marine instead of leaving it open to another interpretation. 13.c. Grade. The AP shall recommend an initial rank for the applicant up to Gunnery Sergeant (E7). Is it saying a person off the street, attends recruit training, can be appointed to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant if he has enough college and work experience? Comments are welcomed.

Do you know about Navy SBIR Transition Program? Navy SBIR/STTR Transition Program (Navy STP) I'll be working with their new cohort today to ensure they have a deep understanding of the DoD cybersecurity requirements in contracts. Established by ONR over 20 years ago, Navy STP continues to make an impact on SBIR businesses’ ability to achieve a transition: Companies that participate in Navy STP have an 18 percent greater likelihood of transitioning their technology compared to those that do not participate. If you are a DoD organization who wants similar support for your tech transition - there is a process at DAU called Mission Assistance! Drop me a line to learn all about it.

More than four years after the establishment of a sixth military service, U.S. Space Force, in December 2019, a new report advises the creation of a seventh service, the U.S. Cyber Force, which would initially come under the Department of the Army. “In the U.S. military, an officer who had never fired a rifle would never command an infantry unit, yet officers with no experience behind a keyboard are commanding cyber warfare units,” said the Washington, D.C.-based Foundation for Defense of Democracies’ United States Cyber Force: A Defense Imperative. “This mismatch stems from the U.S. military’s failure to recruit, train, promote, and retain talented cyber warriors. The Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines each run their own recruitment, training, and promotion systems instead of having a single pipeline for talent. The result is a shortage of qualified personnel at U.S. Cyber Command (CYBERCOM), which has responsibility for both the offensive and defensive aspects of military cyber operations.” #nationalsecurity #intelligence #connectivity #cyber #connectivitymatters #hacking #military #communications #cybersecurity #security #infosec #networksecurity #newspace #newspaceeconomy #strategy #constellations #satellite #space #satelliteoperatos #satcoms #satellitesystems #satelliteoperations #ops #opsec #telecommunications #spaceindustry #LowEarthOrbit #sda #megaconstellations #spaceindustry #esa #nasa #eu #europe #cyberwarfare #cyberdefense #defense #jamming #antijamming #resilience #oneweb #starlink #kuiper #mpower #SES #EUTELSAT #spacex #telesat #milsatcom #govsatcom #sda #spacecraft #internetofthings #development #spacedata #iris2 #cubesat #MichaelHadjitheodosiou https://lnkd.in/epP8SSv4
