🍂 Avoid the Politics, Pass the Pie… and Talk Estate Planning! 🦃 We all know the drill: Thanksgiving dinner starts with grace and ends with someone bringing up politics. This year, why not steer the conversation in a smarter (and less awkward) direction? Try these estate planning zingers instead: 🦃 “Hey, did you know 67% of people don’t have a will? Looks like we’ll be arguing over more than just the turkey leftovers!” 🥧 "Without an estate plan, the government decides who gets your stuff. Do you think Uncle Sam knows how to use your air fryer?" 🦃 “Fun fact: You don’t have to be rich to have an estate plan. If you’ve got a Netflix password to pass on, it’s time to plan!” 🥧 “Planned giving isn’t just for billionaires—it’s how you leave a legacy! Like Aunt Carol’s famous casserole, but forever.” Skip the family drama and talk about something meaningful this Thanksgiving. Estate planning can bring peace of mind and ensure your values live on. #Thanksgiving #EstatePlanning #LegacyPlanning #PassThePie

Embracing the Mix of Life's Struggles and Triumphs 🍰 Let's rewind to a time when financial storms were a constant, and pressure from business setbacks and retrenchment weighed heavy. There were days when selling my gold bangles was the lifeline needed to get through the month—a somber reality that left its mark. Yet, from the shadows emerged resilience and a strategic quest for survival. Enter my talent as a baker, a skill that unfolded unexpectedly. It all began with a batch of cupcakes for my daughter's school event, catching the eye of a small circle of moms. From weekly bakes, it evolved into crafting birthday and novelty cakes. Then came the moment—an invitation to bake wedding cakes. No investor, no capital, not even my own mixing machine. But in my hands was a gift from my gran—a KENWOOD Stand Alone Mixer from the early '80s, still standing strong. This simple yet powerful machine became my lifeline, helping me provide for my family week after week. Grateful doesn't cover it. If not for this mixer, I wouldn't be where I am today. It's a testament that sometimes, the simplest tools become our greatest allies. Now, I use it with pride, a piece of the past still shaping my present. The message here? Never surrender. Your drive, your talents—they are your untapped power. Believe that storms pass, and embrace the journey that awaits. You never know where it might lead. P.S. Any Kenwood sponsors in the house? 😄🍰 #LifeMix #BakersJourney #Resilience #KenwoodMixerLove

For when you want to tell your kids about Thanksgiving but aren’t sure where to start... Children often don’t get the credit they deserve. Their comprehension and empathy are extraordinary, yet they’re frequently underestimated. The truth is, young children are some of the most empathetic and critically curious individuals I know. After all, we’ve all encountered their timeless question: “But WHY?” Growing up, many of us were taught a simplified (and inaccurate) version of Thanksgiving: that Christopher Columbus discovered America, pilgrims arrived, and everyone joyfully shared a meal. Some adults still believe this narrative. As adults, it’s our responsibility to help kids understand the world they’re growing up in—even when it feels daunting. The reality is, they’re already noticing and processing more than we might realize. They deserve a space to explore their thoughts and feelings about these complex topics, with our guidance. If you’re a parent, teacher, family member, or community leader, here are some ideas to navigate meaningful Thanksgiving conversations with children: 1. Trust their instincts. Children inherently understand fairness, right versus wrong, and compassion. 2. Use relatable topics. Frame discussions in terms they already grasp, such as: -Fairness -Sharing vs. stealing -Spreading illness -Generosity -Equality vs. equity -Natural death vs. harm (if this has been addressed in your household) 3. Speak their language. Use the words and tone you already use at home or in the classroom. 4. Encourage dialogue. Ask open-ended questions and create space for them to ask their own. 5. Model humility. Show them that adults don’t always have all the answers—and that’s okay. -If you don’t know something, look it up together. -If you make a mistake or hurt someone, acknowledge it, and take steps to repair the situation. It’s never too early—or too late—to nurture the changemakers of tomorrow. And let’s not forget: we have so much to learn from them, too. Lastly, if you are looking for a place to start, here are some great children's books that share the true history of Thanksgiving: https://lnkd.in/g3bvytFe
