Today marks the 75th year since the National Parks Act was passed to establish National Parks, making it easy and free for anyone to access nature. It's hard to imagine what things would be like if this hadn't happened. Because not only did the Act open the countryside up to ordinary people, it also ensured the safeguarding of our most beautiful landscapes for future generations to enjoy. As a post from National Parks Partnerships today shared: 'Created a year after the founding of the NHS, National Parks were intended to be our ‘natural health service’. With over 90 million people visiting the 15 National Parks a year, this 'natural health service' now covers around 10% of Britain’s land, encompassing an incredible range of environments, landscapes and natural heritage. But managing peoples' safety and experience, while also maintaining the Parks and investing in vital regeneration projects, does not come cheap. If you watched last night's Countryfile on the BBC, you will have heard of the funding challenges the National Parks face: "The funding picture for us right now is bleak, but there is so much hope and so many opportunities where we can deliver solutions to these challenges" While trundl is currently only a relatively small donator, we're immensely proud that the National Parks Partnerships team quickly understood our shared values and vision for getting more people out and active in nature. They became one of our first charity partners and have been incredible supporters and advisors across the 3+ years that we have trundled for them. We'll be trundling again for the National Parks UK over the holidays as part of our biggest 'All Go' fundraiser for all of our charity partners. This is generously sponsored by Sykes Holiday Cottages, who have supported many of our trundls for UK National Parks too. Do join in if you can and turn your everyday walks into donations for this brilliant and important cause 💚 #trundl #charitywalk #esg #purposedrivenbusiness

The Productivity Commission has released their final 'Future foundation for giving' report. See it here: https://lnkd.in/gVvYA6G4 The report included 19 recommendations to the Government to identify opportunities and obstacles to increasing giving in Australia. Among those included: - amendment of the ITAA 1997 to remove the $2 threshold for tax-deductible giving. - reform the DGR giving system. - removal of the 'basic religious charity' concept. - improve coordination and information sharing among regulators. - amendments to ancillary fund requirements. - removal of DGR status for school building funds. The Government will now consider their response to the report. However, Assistant Minister for Charities Andrew Leigh responded to the report and said "the recommended changes to tax settings for donations to school building funds are not being considered".

TOXIC CHARITY! When you give a fish rather than a fishing rod, this is what happens... 1. Give 1x, you elicit appreciation 2. Give 2x, you build anticipation 3. Give 3x, you set an expectation 4. Give 4x, you get entitlement 5. Give 5x, you create dependence Unfortunately, we've seen this happen in many developed and developing countries by NGOs, Charities and Govts. I'm certainly not saying we shouldn't give, but we must make sure we're giving to build self-sustainability rather than dependence. So our aim this year at our humble Fijian orphanage is to use donations to move us towards Self-Sustainability. With incoming donations & sponsorships, we; ✅️ Created a sustainable, underground grey water system saving the Orphanage $30k per year in sewage clearing costs. ✅️ Built an on-site greenhouse, so we can grow our own veges and fruit and eventually reduce our weekly shop by $500 per week. ⬇️ Are building a dog house and chicken coup, so we can grow our own chickens and have our own eggs. ➡️ Will turn our arts and crafts into a shop front & Cafe that our older kids & youth can work in during the holidays so they can build their confidence, skills, gain work experience and save for their future. So next time you give, please ask, how is my money building sustainable communities rather than creating dependence. https://lnkd.in/gNc8vfVG

It's time for change! The Productivity Commission's final report on philanthropy has been released. A key recommendation and one I hear again and again is how difficult it is for organisations to obtain Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status. This permits donations to be claimed as a tax deduction encouraging giving, growth, advocacy and awareness. Although not all should receive DGR status, it does need reviewing and expanding. With over 10% of the Australian workforce employed in charities and 3.5 million volunteers, there is a responsibility to ensure philanthropy is supported by government. Philanthropy + Not-for-profit = a more just society where no one is left behind. It's a big ask but we must continue to work towards this I'll be watching this space!

❗PLEASE SHARE❗ We are hoping to collect and recycle Christmas trees in January, for a donation to our charity. We are looking to take on tree collections in the following areas but we need your help! 🎄GL14 (Cinderford) 🎄GL15 (Lydney) 🎄GL16 (Coleford) 🎄GL17 (Mitcheldean) 🎄GL18 (Newent) 🎄 GL19 (Huntley) This will be taking place over 2 days in January, at present we are unsure which days but most likely mid Jan. In order for this to work we need help with the following… 1. Volunteers with vans/trucks with trailers to collect trees from the above postcodes via a mapped route (the most efficient route). 2. More yards to store the trees in once collected and where they can be chipped. We currently have one in Newent and one in Huntley. Ideally we need at least 1 in the Cinderford/Lydney area to make our collection trips most economical. 3. Use of a large wood chipper, preferably someone to chip it too. Arborists? More than 1 of these would be great to save travelling between postcodes. 4. Disposal of the chippings. Do you know of someone/somewhere that would want the chippings? Farmers? Allotments? To cover pathways? Are you, a family member, employer or colleague able to help James Hopkins Trust with this? Or do you know of anyone else that could? We are aware that it is often ‘Who you know, not what you know’. Maybe you cannot help with any of the above but your employer/company would consider sponsoring a hire van so we could do some collections instead maybe? We really need all the help we can get with this to make it a success and we believe that with the help of our loyal supporters, we can do just that. All of us here at JHT really want this to work and we’ve got everything crossed that this plan comes together. Please do let us know if you think this is something you could possibly help us with on info@jameshopkinstrust.org.uk or 01452 612216. Profits raised from this will go directly to James Hopkins Trust, ensuring that we can continue providing this vital respite to families in Gloucestershire with a severely disabled and life-limited young child. #MakingMagicMemories #JHT #JamesHopkinsTrust #KitesCorner #NursingRespiteCare #Gloucestershire #Charity #ChildrensHospice #ChristmasTree #Volunteers #ChristmasTreeRecycling #SupportLocalCharity

How can we encourage more effective giving? Research shows emotional and knowledge-based obstacles often lead donors to support less effective charities. Overcoming these challenges involves educating donors and incentivizing effective giving. By prioritizing effective charities, donors can significantly increase the positive outcomes of their contributions. 🌟 #effectivegiving #effectivecharities #research #data #report
