#STEPtember is more than just a time to raise funds or commit to walking a number of steps per day. It is a time to reflect on our own ableism while educating ourselves on the ableism of others and doing everything we can to understand those different from ourselves. It is a time to come together and work toward a more accessible future for all, a future not possible without the necessary research and technologies from organizations such as Cerebral Palsy Alliance Research Foundation. I step this year and every year in loving memory of my cousin Kara. She showed me everyday how determination and persistence will carry you far in life and and that with the right support and assistance, everyone deserves the chance to live the best life they are able to. #MoveTogether because together, we can make a difference in the world around us. Important message from our Founder and CEO Hello neighbors, First I wanted to say thank you for all your support in the past 7 years. You have helped F5 Project become one of the fastest-growing and most impactful non-profits in the Midwest. Along with the help of the Behavioral Health Department and the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, we were able to provide help to 30,000+ people all over ND and MN. Between Care Coordination, Peer Support, Housing, Employment Services, Mental Health, Youth Services, we are able to do something impactful on the ground level for those who struggle inside and outside of facilities that have been missing for a long time. Recently due to unforeseen events that happened, it will hit us hard financially. This will affect our impact and response to the community need for peer support and potentially more. The reason I am writing you today is to ask for your help and support our participants, employees and our communities. There is a variety of ways you can help which I will mention in a bit. But first I wanted to share my deepest gratitude and the vision that F5 Project is a community non-profit. The more you support us, the less we are dependent on government, grants, and anything else that can change at a moment's notice. The Daesy Dialogue is a talking toolkit I've created that offers parents and caregivers a map of what to say and how to say it in heightened emotional moments with their young child. It's full of practical, straightforward and down to earth suggestions/prompts that can support young children's emotional wellbeing. My motivation to write The Daesy Dialogue has been two-fold: firstly, a desire to highlight the positive influence we can have, as parents and caregivers, in contributing to our child's emotional health and development through meanigful conversations; and secondly, to emphasise the importance of connection and the benefits reaped. 🤔 What did you get up to on the windiest weekend of the year? Er, along with a group of very brave people, I stepped over the side of a massive rock for a charity abseil...! This was one of the scariest things I've ever done in my life. But I did it. And the views from the top at Brimham Rocks were breathtaking. My son decided he didn't want to take part in the abseil (wise boy!), so he was given the very important job of looking after his favourite Autism Angels dog - a gorgeous husky called Yume (more pix in the comments) ❤️ If you've sponsored us, THANK YOU for your donations and your kind messages. Children benefit massively from the specialist equine therapy at their farm in North Yorkshire. It really is life changing. It helps them to build confidence and learn new skills, and be a part of a wonderful community. • Did you know that some austistic children find the demands of school - and the school environment - almost unbearable? They may feel overwhelmed or anxious in a system that is simply not designed for them. This is not fair. And it means that they often CANNOT (not won't) access school - or other clubs and groups. This can be extremely upsetting and isolating for the whole family, which is one reason why Autism Angels is so important. ** According to recent research in The Guardian, more than a quarter of autistic children in England – 51,000 out of about 200,000 children – are continually or repeatedly absent from school, meaning they have missed 10% or more of the school term. And one in four autistic children wait more than three years to receive the support they need at school.
