For today's BOI story... in December 1998 I flew to 🇨🇱 Dallas to meet Mark Cuban. It didn’t work out. To make a very ⏳ long story shorter, in December 1998 after my mother convinced my father to let her invest in the 📊 stock market, she bought a stock on a 🔥 "hot" tip from a friend. Not surprisingly the stock went from whatever 🫧 inflated price, to 📉 $0.14 by the end of the week, and the CEO, CFO and others were 👮 arrested for fraud. I convinced my father to give me the remaining 💰 $30K to invest. I liked Broadcast.com and decided to ✈️ fly from Israel to Dallas to check the company out up close. I tried to arrange a meeting with Mark Cuban, but he was "busy." I met another 👨🏼💼 senior executive and I liked what I saw. Into BCST went all the 💸 money. Within a few months I 🍀 quadrupled my money, when Yahoo purchased the company for $5.7 billion. Now I had $120K worth of Yahoo. At the time I was 💼 managing tech stock portfolios for others, and using my success to bring in more people. I didn't like Yahoo, so I needed to find another windfall. At the time Checkpoint was the top 👾 cybersecurity company but the stock didn't keep pace with other tech darlings. I knew I could do well with it, but thought it just wasn’t 🚀 glamorous enough. . I needed to find the next big thing. MPath it was. They were going to rock the ☎️ telephony industry and they were backed by the top VCs in SIlicon Valley. Well, when you do 🥴 stupid things you get what you deserve. After buying on margin to ⚡ turbo charge my gains I was deep in the 🥵 red when the tech bubble exploded. Checkpoint in the meantime kept on 💫 going up and up. April 6 1999, 5 days after the Broadcast.com sale The stock price was around $5. It hit ✨ $100 by September 2000! The lesson I learned is, I’d rather talk about 💥 exciting stuff like Operating Agreements, Tax Strategies, Asset Protection, but as 2024 starts to 🍃 wind down, it's going to be the boring BOIs for me. BOIs are what we need right now and in all its dullness I am going to pound the table until it 🩸 bleeds BOI.
