The BMF Sector Awareness Programme Working Group – 'Making a Material Difference' together. We’ve been working hard, getting ready for the the soft launch of the programme to BMF members at JCB Rocester, on 30th April. For the last 18 months now, I've had the great privilege of working with this exceptional group of people! Together with the BMF team, Jeremy Harris, Anu Singh, we’ve been shaping the strategy that will put Building Materials on the map, for the first time. It's been quite a journey: researching the barriers we need to overcome to attract top talent and new entrants into the sector. Defining what makes our sector unique and articulating those powerful USPs that have never been promoted in a coordinated way before. Developing the brand, creative and communications strategy that will make our 'invisible' sector visible and create clear pathways into it. And understanding the needs of the BMF's wide range of members, from merchants to manufacturers and service providers, creating a programme that strengthens the sector for all. None of this would have been possible without the enthusiasm and expert guidance provided by the Working Group, in the photo, left to right: Marianna Peet Tamasine Hickey Natalie Sartain Simon Gambrill Joanne Callow Andy Rayner Siobhan Lewis Lousie Parkes Natalie Chapman Thanks also to the other Working Group members: Mark Mallinder, EH Smith Lynda Moore, Bradfords Joni Beal, Alsford Timber Lousie Polston, Alsford Timber Simon Humpage, Selco Alex Peacock, Williams Evie Parkinson, Marshalls Heather Wolfenden, Lindab Rebecca Hughes, Talasey Plus all the 100's of members and individuals who have supported the campaign development so far, apologies, too many to name all here: Alsford Timber Chandler Builders Merchants CW Berry Forterra Harlow Brothers LBS Builders Merchants Lindab Lords Group Manthorpe Building Products Ox Tools Pimberly Selco Travis Perkins/LEAP Wavin Weinerberger Williams Plumbing & Heating and many more. Myself, the working group and the BMF team can’t wait to share all of this with you on 30th April. If you want to know more, or find out how to attend the event, contact Jeremy Harris, places are limited, so please act fast. This is our unique opportunity to shape the Building Materials sector together. We can't make this happen without you! #buildersmerchantsfederation #buildingmaterials #skills

🛬 What a time at ASCD 2024! A whirlwind weekend of leading workshops in Washington D.C. and connecting with educators at the ASCD annual conference. We led two signature sessions: "Sharing Your Story" with Candace and "The Power of Precise Practice" with Dana. The best part? Seeing educators snapping pictures of slides and jotting down notes to take turnkey strategies back to their schools this week. #ASCD #educatorconference #professionaldevelopment #educatordevelopment #coachingstrategies #marketingstrategies

In their event planning and coordination class this fall, University of Kentucky students engaged in a group project that went beyond the classroom, allowing them to serve both UK and the city of Lexington. The course, HMT 570, is offered by the UK Department of Retailing and Tourism Management. Through the course, students engage in hands-on event planning, enhancing their skills in coordination, communication and problem solving while providing valuable service to the local community. “By integrating community needs into their projects, HMT 570 students are making a lasting impact and exemplifying the values of service, collaboration, and social responsibility,” said associate professor Tracy Lu. Mark's thoughts after his recent Gatwick Diamond Business Seminar 💭 "I was nervous in the days and even weeks leading up to the event, but strangely calm on the morning itself. I was really chuffed with how well it went. It’s boosted my confidence that I can deliver presentations to this kind of audience with authority and – in a weird way – kind of enjoyed it. A personal highlight was when John Young (ex-BBC reporter who now advises business people on how to deliver presentations) made a point of coming to find me to say he thought it was the best GDB Education Seminar he’d ever attended. That made my day! As a means of raising your brand profile, hosting seminars is a great investment of time (and without needing to cost that much money)." What should Mark discuss in his next seminar? Awesome short (15m) interview about a forthcoming update report to 2019 AACRAO research on #CPL, #PLA, #PLAR #RPL, #VPL (pick your acronym), focused on messy #portfolio approaches. This is just Credit for Prior Learning, which I find a bit narrow, even within an academic context (lots of other purposes for recognition)... ...but there's lots of great stuff and I can't wait for the report. The big TIL for me is Jon Calderwood's suggestion about actually developing and credentialing faculty in their roles as Advisors and Assessors for #RPL. They're far and away the key actors in HE, but currently, over 60% have no formal training. Jon suggests that insitutions could start reporting faculty PD as a KPI for academic quality to accreditors. I suggest that accreditors could start asking for it... 8-> Food for thought for the upcoming #VPLBiennale in Ireland and for us up here in Canada, as #CAPLA, Canada's counterpart to CAEL, prepares for a pan-Canadian scan of PD for #RPL. NB: Andy Brown, Bonnie Kennedy and others on the Credentialing and Certification committee. Finally, kudos to Noah Geisel for his ongoing role as a tireless whisperer for #alternativecredentials #digitalbadges #openbadges. Now with #PLA. Will Jon be at the The Badge Summit @ CU Boulder, I wonder?
Innovative credentials are here to stay, but what is your institution's culture around prior learning assessments and innovative credentials? Addressing your institution's existing culture around prior learning could help you decide your next move. View Monday's episode of Credential Chats featuring guest Jon Calderwood, Executive Director of Enrollment Management at Mott Community College, for a recap of some of the wisdom he shared at the 109th AACRAO Annual Meeting. https://lnkd.in/gFBkFaKh

Playground equipment sales to schools and municipalities make up over 65% of the market. Having spent years in the playground industry... I've noticed a few key strategies that can open doors to this lucrative segment: • Build strong relationships. ↳ Network with school boards and local officials. • Understand the regulations. ↳ Familiarize yourself with safety standards. • Offer customization. ↳ Schools prefer designs that cater to specific needs. • Leverage grants. ↳ Many institutions rely on grants for funding. The demand for safe and engaging playgrounds is only growing. These four key areas are what make us industry leaders. "But where do I start?" Don’t worry, I've got your back. Reply with "ready" (or DM me), and I'll help you get started.
