One of the most common misconceptions about Procurement, especially in companies that don't manufacture goods, is that we only focus on negotiating SaaS contracts. While it's true that our team handles SaaS sourcing and negotiations, that's just a small part of what we do. Recently, I attended Zip's User Conference, where one standout session focused on creating visuals to represent an organization’s vendor spend. This helps highlight the resources needed to manage different categories by department. The session had a unique and memorable title: "The Periodic Table of Spend." I created my own version, which visually represents our spend categories. The fun part was color-coding the areas handled before Procurement was involved and showing the impact we can make after the department is established. Beyond the usual savings reports and department-specific results, this approach is a great way to tell the story of the value a Procurement team can bring. #strategicsourcing #sourcing #procurement #categorymanagement #procurementleaders #vendormanagement

Procurement is crucial for securing value in businesses, especially amidst evolving SaaS contract dynamics. However, at Vertice we have seen a concerning trend emerge as suppliers withhold renewal quotes until 30 days out, despite customer requests far earlier. This lack of transparency obstructs Procurements efforts, forcing last-minute decisions that may not align with needs. Delayed renewal quotes also allow vendors to potentially alter pricing terms, complicating negotiations and eroding trust. It's a short-sighted approach, prioritising revenue over long-term relationships. Procurement must advocate for early engagement and transparency to ensure strategic alignment and mitigate unnecessary renewals. By fostering open communication and fair practices, Procurement can drive change and protect organisational interests. Early engagement is vital for building win-win outcomes and ensuring businesses acquire the right solutions. If your suppliers refuse to give you quotes 90+ days out, you could be in for a nasty surprise! #procurement #sourcing #saas
