Once you take a break from something, it takes extra time and effort to get back into it. I had been competing in ballroom Latin 💃 since 2004, but I stopped competing after Blackpool in 2019. I was on and off since then, but then I took a year and a half of break until last October. In order for me to get back into competitions, I need to have choreo routines for five dances, and more importantly, I need to build stamina to dance five dances, back to back, and keep going round after round. My short-term goal is to have three dances down by the end of April, and participate in a showcase. And my midterm goal is to have all five dances ready for a competition in November. Each dance is 1 minute 15 seconds to 1 minute 30 seconds, and 15 sec break in between and you need to dance five dances back to back. So I started to train for that. I ran for 1 minute and 15 seconds, and took a 45sec walking break. Repeat x3. I will be increasing the intensity gradually. For anything you do, whether it’s dancing, or skating, or speaking, if you wanna do that thing well, you need to dedicate the majority of your time and effort to build a solid foundation.
