As the holiday season rapidly approaches, people are preparing to gather with family and friends to enjoy their Thanksgiving turkeys. Turkeys often play a central role in the Thanksgiving meal. Historically, turkey drovers would herd large flocks of turkeys on foot to different towns for consumption [1]. In the present day, we utilize a complex supply chain of farms, processing plants, refrigerated semi-trucks, and grocery stores to bring turkeys to dinner tables across the country. But how do we ensure quality and safety of our precious Thanksgiving turkeys? Read More Here: https://lnkd.in/ghswygHq

A rumour often surfaces around Thanksgiving that Benjamin Franklin wanted the turkey, not the bald eagle, as America's national bird. While this idea is a myth, it does spark an interesting thought: how would the Thanksgiving tables look if turkeys weren’t the star? Would families instead serve ducks, geese, or perhaps pheasants? Inspired by this notion, I spent some time creating a formula to estimate the total cost of replacing turkey with another bird as the centrepiece of the holiday feast. ~Let’s consider the Pekin duck, a logical contender given its popularity after chicken. Here’s a breakdown: 1. Turkey 🦃 : A turkey typically weighs 25 lbs (~11.3 kg) and costs around $45, comfortably serving 20 people. With 46 million turkeys purchased annually for Thanksgiving, the total expense amounts to $2.7 billion…[46m * (11.3/11.3)* $45] 2. Pekin Duck 🦆 : A Pekin duck weighs about 9 lbs (~4 kg) and costs approximately $30. To match the servings of a single turkey, households would need about 2.8 ducks. Substituting ducks for all Thanksgiving meals would push the total expense to a staggering $3.8 billion…[46m * (11.3/4.08)* $30]. ✴️ Shoutout to the Bald Eagle for saving the day as the national bird and providing a cheaper yet tasty turkey meal on thanksgiving. #thanksgiving #math

🦃 Why is Turkey the Star of Thanksgiving? 🦃 Ever wonder why turkey takes center stage every Thanksgiving? 🍂 Here’s a fun history lesson to share around the table this year! - At the first Thanksgiving in 1621, early settlers and Native Americans feasted on venison, seafood, and other wild game—but turkey? It wasn’t even the main dish! So, how did turkey become the holiday’s MVP? - ✅ It’s American-Made! Wild turkeys are native to North America, making them a uniquely American symbol. ✅ Feeds a Crowd: Turkeys are big enough to satisfy a whole family and still leave room for leftovers. ✅ Tradition Made It Happen: In the 19th century, Sarah Josepha Hale—known as the "Mother of Thanksgiving"—campaigned to make Thanksgiving a national holiday. In her writings, she highlighted turkey dinners with all the trimmings, and the bird quickly became synonymous with the celebration. - Turkeys were also practical. They were plentiful, economical, and didn’t interfere with other food sources like chickens (needed for eggs) or cows (needed for milk). Thanks to Hale’s vivid descriptions and advocacy, turkey became the iconic centerpiece of Thanksgiving feasts! - At Able Care Mobile Therapy, we cherish the traditions that bring families and communities together. Whether it’s sharing a meal, a story, or a helping hand, these moments make the season special. 💜 - How do you enjoy your turkey? Sandwiches, soups, or something creative? Happy National Hot Dog Day! Did you know that this tasty holiday has been celebrated since the 1970s? The National Hot Dog and Sausage Council designated July 17th as National Hot Dog Day to honor one of America's favorite foods. The origins of the hot dog itself can be traced back to German immigrants in the late 19th century, who brought their traditional sausages to the United States. Over time, the hot dog became a staple at baseball games, cookouts, and street vendors across the country. So grab a hot dog, load it up with your favorite toppings, and enjoy this delicious day! #manufacturing #supplychain #solutions
