This is a weird thing I’ve noticed about construction: Contractors almost never talk about customer service. Some Contractors get it. But most underperforming Subs and GCs? They’re usually more focused on process, documentation, and fighting for their position. Don’t get me wrong: You need process, documentation, and to fight for your position. But it shouldn’t be the heart of your customer service strategy. It builds bad blood and relationships based on fear. Instead, build relationships based on trust and results: 1. Hit the job months before you’re needed on site 2. Call the client when you don’t need anything 3. Stop in the trailer every chance you get 4. Schedule a post-job debrief 5. Listen to feedback 6. Act on it Clients love to work with Contractors like this! How do you prioritize customer service?
