Exciting news from a week at the MAX IV Laboratory in Sweden! We've just wrapped up an intense week of research, focusing on carbon dynamics in German soils using the Thünen Institute's agricultural soil inventory. We produced imaging data to explore how both fresh and old carbon stabilizes on mineral surfaces in soils with varying textures and carbon content. This research builds upon the promising ongoing work of Neha Begill. After completing X-ray imaging (STXM), we're gearing up to use NanoSIMS to combine soil organic matter composition with elemental analysis. This successful week was made possible through collaborative efforts together with Steffen A. Schweizer, Mike C. Rowley, and Luis Carlos Colocho Hurtarte.

Making matings with intent is a key sustainability intervention for both beef and dairy production systems. I had a great time speaking with Chip Kemp from IGS American Simmental Association about the role of hybrid beef genetics in a more profitable and sustainable supply chain. My section starts at 39:33 in the video link, but encourage you check out the interviews with Don Schiefelbein and Lane Giess as well. Our discussion centered around the role of hybrid genetics in a modern beef breeding program and the additive value of coming technologies that create the opportunity to transform beef genetic improvement. It’s been a month since I joined the CEU Democracy Institute, and I’m excited to present my first seminar here! I’ll be discussing how political parties create affective polarization - how they make us hate and love each other - and the roles that party interactions, policies, and populism play in this process. We’ll also explore strategies against illiberalism and the potential costs of challenging these governments. Would be great to see you there if you’re interested! #CEU #DemocracyInstitute #PoliticalCommunication #Research

Innovative Aquaponics Research by #ESR2 François Husson! Check out this insightful video featuring François Husson, who is advancing #aquaponics with his research on "Synchronisation of Fish and Plant Rhythms in Aquaponics." His work explores how to optimize the timing of fish excretion and plant nutrient uptake by studying: · Daily metabolic rhythms of fish and plants. · Impact of mealtime and light/dark cycles. · Phase-shifting effects of photoperiod manipulation.
