Another big step in the global consolidation of signalling suppliers is complete. Thales dissolves into Hitachi Rail which strengthens its position as one of the "big three" besides Alstom and Siemens. Again, one may wonder what the consequences will be, for example regarding a necessary portfolio streamlining. In the field of CBTC Hitachi now has three product lines. Its "own", the ex-Ansaldo one and now the ex-Thales one too. Too much of an installed base (as far as Thales CBTC is concerned) to compromise on long-term support obligations, for sure.
