Reflecting on last week’s Roro Congres, it was an invaluable experience for understanding the current state and future directions of the RoRo sector. These events are crucial for fostering collaboration and innovation among industry experts. During the keynote session, Mike Sturgeon, executive director of ECG, provided insights into the global market for finished vehicle transportation, highlighting stable growth predictions globally and in Central and Western Europe over the next five to six years. He also discussed the market's focus on EVs and Hybrid vehicles and the potential impact of proposed tariffs on Chinese vehicles by the European Commission. In a panel discussion on multimodal transport, experts tackled pressing challenges like maritime shipping capacity issues and shortages in wagons, drivers, and traction for road transport. They emphasized better information sharing among stakeholders and the role of forwarders in combining information from different transport modes to find sustainable transport solutions. Mary Carmen Barrios from Wallenius Wilhelmsen highlighted the industry’s ongoing supply chain challenges and the importance of adaptability, flexibility, and sustainability. She mentioned moderate market growth of 2.6 to 2.9% this year and next, and discussed Zeebrugge’s growth as a RoRo hub. She highlighted the company's ecological initiatives like Orcelle Horizon, a wind-powered vessel reducing emissions by 90%, and Green Corridors, which are Net Zero end-to-end services. Marc Adriansens discussed Zeebrugge’s strategic advantages and regulatory challenges. He noted that many shipping lines are looking to southern ports like Barcelona for more terminal capacity. He sees Chinese OEMs as game changers, comparing their entry to Europe to earlier Japanese and Korean entries but in very bigger force. A panel on space optimization addressed operational challenges related to storage in multi-purpose terminals and difficulties in obtaining building permits. They emphasized collaboration and innovative solutions for space utilization, noting that vertical expansion may not be the immediate solution and stressing the need to distinguish between structural and temporary issues. In conclusion, the Roro Congres highlighted the importance of collaboration, innovation, and sustainability in driving the RoRo sector forward. On November 22, 2024, the "Cross-Caspian Interactive: Experiences, Changes, and Achievements" roundtable conference, hosted by the International Association of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR), took place in Istanbul, Turkey. This event was part of the larger Logitrans International Transport Logistics Exhibition 2024, held from November 20-22. The roundtable aimed to strengthen international cooperation in transport and logistics, develop infrastructure, and build partnerships among member countries of the Cross-Caspian Association. Key discussions focused on advancing the development of the Trans-Caspian transport system and enhancing trade connectivity between Asia and Europe. 🌐🤝 Participants examined how regional collaborations can drive improvements in multi-modal transport systems, from rail and road to sea freight, emphasizing sustainable logistics solutions and increased efficiency. 🚂🚢 This event is a pivotal step in the continued growth of the Trans-Caspian corridor, facilitating greater global trade and deeper international ties. In 2023, Kazakhstan’s Minister of Transport, Marat Karabayev, announced a massive 70% increase in cargo volume along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR), reaching 3.4 million tons. Container traffic surged threefold, totaling 34,600 TEUs. Notably, container transit from China increased by over 20 times this year! 📦🔝 Azerbaijan Railways’ Chairman, Rovshan Rustamov, shared that over 210 container trains, carrying more than 420,000 tons of goods, have already been transported through the Middle Corridor from China to Azerbaijan. This is just the beginning, with the goal of handling 300 trains this year and 1,000 in the long term. 🚛🌏 Meanwhile, FESCO has launched regular container train services from Chengdu to Moscow, cutting transportation time to just 28 days. It will leave the country through the Khorgos port and is expected to arrive at Almaty Station in Kazakhstan in 7 days. This is the 863rd China-EU train to be launched in the Shanghai Cooperation Demonstration Zone this year, marking that the number of China-EU trains in the Shanghai Cooperation Demonstration Zone reached the total number of shipments in the whole year last year.Since this year, Shandong CEIBS trains have continued their strong development momentum in the Shanghai Cooperation Demonstration Zone, with a total of 843 trains opened in the first nine months, an increase of 16.6% year-on-year.(Qingdao Daily) ● Guangzhou In the first nine months of this year, the opening of China-EU trains in the Yangtze River Delta increased by 15.7% year-on-year.%  According to statistics from China Railway Shanghai Bureau Group Co., Ltd., from January to September this year, a total of 2,304 China-EU trains in the Yangtze River Delta opened and 237,000 TEUs of goods were delivered, an increase of 15.7% and 15.3% year-on-year, respectively.Since this year, the number of China-EU trains in the Yangtze River Delta has exceeded 230 in a single month for seven consecutive months.Since the opening of the Central European train on the full timetable from Yiwu to Duisburg, Germany, on June 15 this year, 30 Central European trains have been safely arrived and issued with the full timetable, transporting more than 2,900 standard boxes.
