This is a well-done article on food hoarding. As a Certified Processional Organizer in Chronic Disorganization, I see this ALL THE TIME.
The over-full pantry of boxes and cans with expiration dates from years ago.
The bins of moldy vegetables, leaking cartons of sour milk, and freezer burned main dishes.
The containers of good intentions and canisters of desired identities.
It’s heart-breaking to throw out so much unusable food when so many people don’t always have access to it.
What to do about it? Changing behavior is HARD. It takes gallons of readiness, a ton of willpower, and a heaping helping of support. That’s just the first part.
Then come the lifestyle modifications and mindfulness. Making decisions based on a plan, a budget, and what is needed rather than wanted.
There is hope and help available.
