Our CROSSROADS findings reveal a stark generational divide in optimism about the future in the US and Canada.    Generation Z is the most optimistic, believing in the improvement of their communities by current leadership. As you know, I'm not a partisan in America's red and blue divide. But there is one generational shift worth mentioning that isn't making the headlines: our new vice president will be the first millennial at such high of office. And considering the age and divisiveness of our returning president, J.D. Vance has a reasonably high chance of becoming the nation's chief executive sometime in the next four years. A major generation gap persists in government, workplaces and organizations across our country. Those under age 50 are often viewed as entitled, inexperienced, tech-obsessed and unvetted youth by their elders, while the wealth and positions of older Americans seem distant and out of reach to many younger people. But as Elton John sang in "The Lion King," the "circle of life" still holds true. Millennials and even Gen Z are rapidly becoming the mainline of the adult population in our country. For better or worse, I believe the greatest political, cultural and economic shift in modern American history is just beginning as millennials and soon their younger peers come to dominate national life. And along the way, a lot of what we consider professional or appropriate or normal will change.

Tomorrow is Ageism Awareness Day! Which means you should be a bit more mindful of your words, language, and tone when speaking about the different generations. Ageism goes both ways, it does not just include older adults being discriminated against due to their age, but also how older adults view our younger generations. The constant negative stereotypes being thrown out about Millennials and Gen Z or how Gen Z mock Elder Millennials and Gen Xers, we need to stop being so divisive and work towards creating more intergenerational spaces.
