💫 At Net Impact San Francisco, we strive to make a positive impact with every event we hold. Whether it’s selecting purpose-driven companies or social enterprises as venues or choosing the tools we use to manage our gatherings, every decision reflects our mission to drive meaningful change. 💡 One way we do this is by using Humanitix (https://lnkd.in/gendU3va) as our event management platform of choice. Humanitix is more than just a ticketing system—it’s a social enterprise that donates 100% of its booking fees to fund education programs for disadvantaged children. 🖐 Note: you won't find any affiliate links or promotions here, I wanted to discuss this because I think its important for mission-driven organizations to be intentional about how they use their assets and influence. 📣 Are you part of a Social Impact professional organization? I'd love to hear your insights on ensuring we continue to make a positive impact as we cultivate our communities. Share your tips and let's keep the conversation going!

When it comes to volunteer management for a sporting event, there are a few key considerations to keep in mind. Here are some thoughts to help you with the process: 1. Define volunteer roles: Clearly outline the different roles volunteers will be fulfilling during the event. This could include ticketing, ushering, hospitality, crowd control, and more. Be specific about the tasks involved in each role to ensure volunteers understand their responsibilities. 2. Recruit volunteers: Advertise volunteer opportunities through various channels such as social media, local community organizations, schools, and online platforms for volunteer recruitment. Provide a simple and convenient registration process for volunteers to sign up. 3. Training and orientation: Conduct training sessions to familiarize volunteers with their roles and responsibilities. This should include information about the event, emergency procedures, customer service skills, and any specific instructions or protocols they need to follow. 4. Communication and coordination: Establish effective communication channels with volunteers to keep them informed before, during, and after the event. Use email, WhatsApp groups, or a dedicated volunteer management software to share updates, changes, and important information. 5. Recognition and appreciation: Show gratitude towards your volunteers by recognizing their efforts. This could include providing them with volunteer T-shirts or badges, offering refreshments during the event, or organizing a thank-you event afterward. Small gestures can go a long way in making volunteers feel valued. 6. Feedback and evaluation: After the event, collect feedback from volunteers to improve the volunteer management process for future events. This will help you learn from their experiences and make necessary adjustments. Remember that effective volunteer management is crucial for the success of your sporting event. By carefully considering these suggestions, you can create a positive experience for both volunteers and attendees. Good luck!

Stakeholder Engagement and Consultation I Evaluation I Quality and Improvement I Creating an effective future direction
This weekend just past, a long weekend for Victorians, I had the pleasure of participating in an annual tennis tournament in Euroa. A tournament predominantly played on grass courts, including the transformed courts on a cricket oval next to the beautiful permanent grass courts at the club. This transformation enables to club to host a larger tournament and give more people the fabulous experience of playing on grass (which really is a devine experience for tennis players and much nicer on your body when you're playing multiple matches over 3 days!). 700 players, over 1300 games played + the spectators and young kids who sit on the side lines to cheer on the games, eat, drink and create the atmosphere. In an incredible yearly feat, the volunteers at the Euroa Tennis Club host a sensational weekend of tennis which is inclusive of all levels of tennis and is a great experience for all ages. This year the temperature was intense but the volunteers still managed to deliver an awesome event. It is true testament to what the right culture and setting up the right processes and systems can do to get great outcomes. Sadly since the pandemic volunteering levels have noticeably decreased in Australia. If you are an organisation that has a volunteer arm or is struggling to get the volunteer culture right, I can assist you. As consultants that work across private, non profit and government organisations, Quality Service Improvement is experienced in reviewing volunteer activity and setting you up for success. Having the right set up and attitude to volunteer activity in your org is vital to have successful outcomes and can lengthen the tenure of volunteers. Send us an enquiry via our webpage, shoot me a message through linkedin or call me - we can discuss what we can do for you. #volunteersmaketheworldgoround #volunteers #improvement #culture

A couple of weeks ago I had the honour of being invested as an Officer of the Order of St John. I was recognised for this honour for my volunteer work at Hato Hone St John locally with the Nelson-Tasman Bays Area Committee, and regionally with the South Island Region Trust Board. The Order of St John is an Order of Chivalry and is an independent part of the New Zealand Royal Honours system. Honours are conferred by the Order with the sanction of King Charles III as Sovereign Head of the Order. To be admitted or promoted within the Order members must show a remarkable dedication to St John and the work of the Order. It has been quite overwhelming, and I’ve had a range of emotions to process as I’ve taken it all in. I have moved through embarrassment, an ‘imposter’ feeling and eventually pride. Through all this stuff swimming around in my head, I keep coming back to focussing on the ‘why’ I volunteer and contribute to such an amazing organisation – here are some of the reasons: PEOPLE - I get to interact with like-minded, passionate and community focused individuals. Genuine people, many of whom have become lifelong friends. Amazing people from a variety of backgrounds, who ordinarily I wouldn’t cross paths with. WELLBEING – Sharing my skills, knowledge and time is a real boost for my confidence, resilience and sometimes pushes me outside my comfort zone. I feel connected and have a strong sense of purpose in the work we do. UNDERSTANDING – I’ve gained a much deeper understanding of the needs and challenges faced by our communities and a far more empathetic view of the world around me. My perceptions are challenged, and I’ve realised some unconscious bias, I never knew I had sitting there! So, why am I sharing this? To encourage you to volunteer your time, knowledge, and experience to the vast number of organisations and community groups out there – plenty are looking for help and support, from ordinary everyday people like you. I know time is precious, but maybe consider sharing it with an organisation like Hato Hone St John – you never know where it might take you. My experience volunteering has genuinely been one of getting equally, if not more back than I put in. Get out there and do it! #stjohn #volunteer #community

✨ Behind the Scenes ✨ Last Saturday was a rollercoaster of emotions. I was prepared for a busy and exciting day with two major events: the Seniors Games at the Rugby Union Club and our first cultural coffee event for Peru Day at the Coffee Commune. Andrea and our friend Jun were set to run the show at Norman Park. I was going to help them set up and then head over to the Coffee Commune. Everything was going smoothly until I tried to start the generator, and it wouldn’t start. Of all days, that was the day the generator failed us. Despite the club's efforts and Mika trying to help us on the phone, after plans A, B, and C didn’t work, we had to give up. I apologized to the club, Jun took the van back home, and Andrea and I had to clear our heads before heading to the Coffee Commune. The mood wasn't great. I felt sad, overwhelmed, and nervous about the event. I couldn’t understand why this had to happen on such a special day. With Andrea’s help, I shook it off, and we prepared for Peru Day, which turned out to be the complete opposite of my morning! We went from disaster to pure joy! Our event went incredibly well, and the overwhelming support we received was positively uplifting. I guess life gives us a bit of everything, and we just have to roll with it, maintain the right attitude, and keep moving forward. LA28 will arrive in Southern California in four years, with Long Beach planning to host eight events (while LA will host 16). But will this be a genuine opportunity for Long Beach to shift away from oil dependency and office space as it rebuilds its post-pandemic economy? Long Beach has announced a five-year, $933-million infrastructure and public safety program, with a little more than $210 million allocated for Olympics-focused projects. Thomas Curwen writes for the Los Angeles Times, "As a nonprofit, LA28 must raise money to host the Games. Originally budgeted for $5.9 billion, the cost has increased to $6.9 billion, of which $616 million will be held aside to be spent on a contingency basis... Part of Long Beach's risk will come if the city and LA28 underestimate the cost of extra services, said Andrew Zimbalist, a professor emeritus of economics at Smith College. And LA28 may not end up with enough cash to reimburse cities." https://lnkd.in/gcY8rqYu
