16 years of living shoreline restoration is working! The first photo was taken on this day sixteen years ago, November 14, 2008. The foreground is my front yard, the middle is the roadway, and the concrete barrier marks the beachfront. Since then, Baysave, The Nature Conservancy, various universities and other nonprofit groups have worked to conduct research to make Money Island a model of shoreline stabilization and restoration. The second photo is taken today at high tide at this same location during the deepest water flood of this year. Living shoreline restoration, combined with rock jetties and seawalls where necessary, really does work to stabilize and restore our shorelines. Baysave is now managing the first ever private placement investment to allow ordinary citizens to own part of the company that made this possible and now plans to establish New Jersey's first clean energy marina.
