Lessons from Holi on Embracing the Colors of Life In Holi, we immerse ourselves in a rainbow of colors, each representing the joy and diversity of life. This festival is beautiful because we playfully accept the colors thrown our way without insisting on our own tastes. Like Holi, where everyone embraces colors joyfully, we should apply this lesson to our lives. There are times when we encounter individuals who behave in a manner that is different from what we expect or desire. Instead of resisting or trying to change them, we should learn to accept and appreciate their unique characteristics. We wash away the colors after the festivities, returning to our original form. Similar to life, we have to remember our essence amidst our many roles and interactions. It is about finding balance and authenticity in all aspects of our lives. Let's celebrate Holi not just for its colors, but for what it teaches us about acceptance, diversity, and the beauty of who we are. I wish you all a colorful and balanced life! In the dance of light and darkness, we often find ourselves caught in the whirlwind of modern life, forgetting the deeper meanings behind our celebrations. Recently, my organization faced a significant challenge: the rising stress and burnout among healthcare professionals. The demands of our roles were overwhelming, leading to a palpable sense of darkness that clouded our collective spirit. It was clear that we needed to rekindle the light of inner resilience and well-being. Drawing inspiration from the essence of Diwali, the Festival of Lights, we initiated a series of workshops focusing on self-awareness and mindfulness. We encouraged our team to explore the ancient wisdom of Jnana—self-knowledge—as a means to illuminate their paths amidst the chaos. By integrating practices such as yoga and meditation into our daily routines, we created a space for reflection and connection, allowing individuals to confront their inner challenges rather than merely escaping them. As we embraced this journey inward, something remarkable happened. The atmosphere shifted; colleagues began to share their experiences, vulnerabilities, and triumphs. The darkness that once loomed began to dissipate, replaced by a renewed sense of purpose and camaraderie. It was a powerful reminder that true joy and resilience come from within, not from external celebrations or distractions. This experience taught me that while festivals like Diwali and Halloween may serve as temporary lifts in our spirits, the real celebration lies in our ability to cultivate inner peace and understanding. Let’s remember that the light we seek is not just in the festivities but in the quiet moments of self-discovery. How do you nurture your inner resilience amidst the chaos of life? I’d love to hear your thoughts and experiences in the comments below. Great success on my first experience in using the Code Book for Global Student Learning outcomes! I chose 1 AD and 18 CU to measure my students Global Competence. The Learning Situation was focussed on discussing Thanksgiving Festivity. After watching a video about Thanksgiving students debate about festivities, perspective and how traditions and festivals influence our identities. I proposed them to reflect on 1 of these 3 questions: 1-What makes thanksgiving unique? What is your favourite festival in your country? Why? 2-The video exposes Thanksgiving Celebration through the Pilgrims point of view. What do you think it is Native Americans perspective?.3-How the historical past is affecting our present through celebrations? I would like to share with you the wall where you can read my students' reflections: Keep on using the Code Book to assess student' Global Competency.

Recently, Nicola Rothmann and I facilitated Global Creatures global conference at the Taronga Zoo. Global Creatures is a spectacular (like literally) theatre production company. You'll know them for the stage productions of Moulin Rouge, Strictly Ballroom, King Kong, How to Train Your Dragon to name a few. There are so many fabulous things to celebrate from this day; 1. The generosity of their Founder and leader Carmen Pavlovic. Flying people from around the world, putting them up in an incredible venue and then taking them out onto the harbour is an act of complete love and gratitude. 2. Asking everyone to contribute to their values and behaviours and owning them together - is how you create something magical. 3. How you are treated with kindness and open arms by everyone from Judy Fuccilli who leads people and culture to Julie N. who makes sure everything happens on time and perfectly. I can't name everyone as it will take up this feed but you are pure delights. And one of my absolute happy moments was chatting to the meerkats. I love this lil’ critter. Especially when they are from the most cohesive tribe in all the mammal kingdom. So much to learn about how they make it work. Being curious (what if that was our default when opposition comes our way), having an immunity when they get bitten (what if we didn't take people personally) and getting the job done (no one calling the unions when asked to do something not on their position description). If only we made it so simple. Thanks Global Creatures. One of my fav experiences. #workplaceculture #feedbackculture #peopleandculture #meerkats
