Meet the hard-working CSB students who are employed in their career fields and earning internship credit this summer! Today, meet Danny Harnisch! "Hello! My name is Danny, I am double majoring in accounting and finance at UW-Green Bay. This summer I will be working on the Statements team at Schreiber Foods. After meeting with my supervisor this past week, we laid out the expectations that she has for me and that I have for her. [...] When I asked her what has made past interns stand out, she mentioned that the interns who stood out were the ones who asked a lot of questions and worked with other teams on the finance floor. With this in mind, I established my first goals for this semester. My goal is to work on at least two projects with teams outside the statements team." "I've already begun to work on a way to improve our miscellaneous invoice process with our credit team, as well as a way to improve our vendor direct orders with the sourcing team. Following the meeting with my supervisor, I also established two more goals for this semester. As I mentioned my supervisor also asked me to work with the other team members on projects they have ongoing. With this in mind, I hope to work on at least one project with each team member during the summer. So far I have roughly 4 out of the 6 team members that I have projects through, so hopefully by the end of next week, I can meet with the other 2 to establish a project I can work on for them. I also noted that some of the best past interns established personal connections with the team and other partners. My final goal for this semester is to attend as many social events that our team and Schreiber have, to create meaningful connections. I think that having a personal connection with the team will help me stand out and create long-lasting professional connections. […] Hopefully, with these goals, I can provide usefulness to the team and Schreiber and develop my professionalism in accounting."

Summer Jobs - Did You Know? If you're currently working at a summer job or know a teen or student who is, here is a useful tax-saving tip: Students and teenage employees normally have taxes withheld from their paychecks by their employer after filling out a Form W-4. However, if the job is regarded as self-employment, like baby-sitting or lawn care can be, they should keep good records of all expenses to help maximize potential deductions. In the case of lawn care, potential deductible expenses may include: business cards, fliers, fuel, equipment rentals, chemicals, work mileage, etc.

Let's talk about going against the grain and not automatically respecting our elders... at least, not when they don’t respect us. As a Gen Xer, I’ve had my fair share of 40-hour work weeks, but I’ve also been in positions where I’ve worked 70-80 hours a week as an exempt employee. When it comes to meetings, I’ve scheduled and attended plenty over the years. So when someone claims it’s unreasonable to expect unpaid interns to attend a meeting before their scheduled hours, don’t come at me saying it makes them a bad employee. That’s just wrong. What it makes is a bad *employer.* The irony is, I haven’t clocked out at 5:00 on the dot in years. I regularly stay several minutes at the very least past closing because I choose to finish up tasks for my clients—without any extra pay. Because I have respect for the clients. The specific issue was about unpaid interns being asked to attend a meeting outside of their agreed-upon hours. My response? If I’m not being paid to be there before 9:00 (and these interns weren't being paid at all), don’t schedule a meeting for earlier than that time unless it’s cleared by me first. But (of course) he’s like many his age and clueless as to how modern business runs. So nope, I won’t blindly respect my elders when they're being hilariously disrespectful of everyone else.

As a Finance Executive Level I at PVC & ASSOCIATES CPA LLC, I gained practical experience in accounting, finance, tax, IRS representation, and CFO services. This role enhanced my managerial skills and analytical abilities through participation in various finance projects. My primary Responsibilities and Experience are as follows; Financial Analysis: My primary role was to perform financial analyses, including budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, and variance analysis, to support the firm's decision-making. I also learned to analyze large financial datasets effectively. Data Management: My primary duties were to gather and sort the financial data coming from different sources and check if the data collected was accurate and inclusive. This helped me to develop good attention to detail and the skills to handle and work on large data sets. Reporting: During my internship, I prepared financial reports and presentations and contributed to forecasting and budget analysis reports, supporting the finance team's planning and decision-making. Finally, Ad Hoc Projects: I acted as a helper to the finance team members and worked with them on special assignments and programs. I benefited from this because I gained a broad view of various aspects of an organization’s financial management as well as enhancing my problem-solving skills. The professional training and guidance from experienced finance professionals during my internship were crucial for my personal development. The internship also helped me build valuable contacts and connections, which are essential for targeting top job positions in the future. My experience at PVC & ASSOCIATES CPA LLC provided invaluable insights into the financial industry and practical applications. It was a fruitful period that equipped me with essential skills and knowledge for my future career in finance. #UTDBSFIN #hireJSOM

The last six weeks were a life-changing experience for me at UDL Distribution (Pvt) Ltd., a leading name in Pakistan's warehousing, logistics, and distribution services. Over the past 6 weeks, I had the incredible opportunity to immerse myself in various financial processes. My diverse role allowed me to gain hands-on experience in several critical areas of finance and accounting. Key Responsibilities & Learning Outcomes: Budgeting & Financial Planning: Being involved during the financial year-end, I supported Mr. Sabir Qureshi in compiling and aligning budget sheets using advanced MS Excel operations. This experience taught me how a small change in one dataset can impact the entire financial structure, highlighting the importance of precision and foresight in budgeting. Expense Reporting: I analyzed expenses across all UDL branches, categorizing them into fixed costs, selling and distribution expenses, and salaries. This task gave me a deep understanding of how expenses are allocated and the impact these allocations have on overall financial health. Branch-wise Profitability Analysis: Collaborating with Mr. Moiz, I calculated the profitability of each branch, learning how these metrics influence strategic decisions on investments, bonuses, and branch management. This experience was invaluable in understanding performance evaluation at a granular level. Invoices & Payments for Inventory Purchases: I was involved in processing and verifying numerous invoices and payments, ensuring accuracy in financial transactions. This task, under the mentorship of Mr. Bilal Qureshi and Mr. Farzain, highlighted the significance of meticulous record-keeping and compliance with agreed terms to prevent errors. Reconciliation Tasks (Purchase, Principal, and Bank): I worked on reconciling purchase records and account payables with supplier statements, ensuring all figures matched accurately. These reconciliation tasks underscored the critical need for accuracy in financial reporting and helped me develop a keen eye for detail. Major Takeaways: This internship not only enhanced my technical skills but also taught me the importance of effective communication and collaboration within a team. Understanding the role of accurate financial management in supporting business decisions and operations was a significant learning outcome. Moreover, the exposure to real-world financial scenarios enriched my problem-solving abilities and prepared me for future challenges in the finance sector. A big thank you to my mentors and the UDL team for their support and guidance throughout this journey! #InternshipExperience #FinanceIntern #FinancialManagement #LearningAndDevelopment #CareerGrowth
