In a planet-friendly move, Quincy Hotel Melbourne has become the first hotel in Victoria to become Climate Active Carbon Neutral Building certified through the National Australian Built Environment Rating System (NABERS). “Hoteliers have a responsibility to play a part in mitigating climate change and supporting the sustainable development of the hospitality sector to create a greener tomorrow,” said TFE's Group Chief Operating Officer, Chris Sedgwick. “By monitoring Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions, our individual hotels, regions and ownership groups can identify the activities which generate the most GHG emissions to assist in identifying initiatives that will provide real emissions savings.” Additionally, Quincy Hotel General Manager, Andrew Edwards says: “In just a short time, we’ve made some inroads and, in addition to investing in NABERS certification, looking at green power, carbon offsetting and initiatives that relate to greenhouse gas emissions, water, waste and energy, we’re also looking at purchasing decisions and our supply chain.” The Hotel Conversation covered this breaking news story here: https://lnkd.in/gTD826Tu To book a stay at Quincy Melbourne, head here: https://lnkd.in/ghzraxK #hotelmanagement #hospitality #travel #tourism #leisuretravel #hotels #travelling #holidays #findmore #tfehotels #australianstories #australiasinternationalhotelgroup #hotelnews #sustainability #hoteliers #hoteldesign #EnergyEfficiency Jodi Clark Tish Nyar Stephen Lye Sarah Smith Stephen Moore Andrew Buchel Sarah Knight

"ECO FRIENDLY: HOW SUSTAINABILITY US REDEFINING TOURISM AND HOSPITALITY" In today's world, individuals are increasingly conscious of the groups and events they engage with or support, with a growing understanding of how our actions affect the environment around us. The hospitality industry is witnessing a shift towards eco initiatives aimed at decreasing carbon emissions through strategies that prioritize minimizing waste and conserving energy. Fairmont Hotels and Resorts is well known for its commitment to sustainability and eco-friendliness practices, as exemplified by their recycling systems and green roofs with bee colonies at select locations across their properties. Furthermore, each of their hotels is proudly LEED certified, which positions them at the forefront of using environmentally conscious construction techniques. Although investing in these systems may require an initial financial outlay, the long-term advantages are significant. The presence of thriving bee colonies supported by Fairmont’s roofs plays a role in preserving our environment's health and well-being. The advantages of embracing sustainability are much greater than the expenses involved. Fairmont Hotels and Resorts showcase how incorporating methods into the hospitality sector can improve efficiency and promote a connection with nature—an exemplary model for others to embrace in creating a greener future. #HOTEL752 #HOSPITALITY #ECOFRIENDLY #TOURISM Prof Sara Harrel

Water usage is part of the resource consumption data that hotels must report under the CSRD, but there is more to it. While specific numbers like 1,500 liters per day or 5 bathtubs can help visualize the problem, it's important to know there is a way broader range of data points that need to be accounted and reported. The bottomline: hotels need to start measuring their data. P.S Are these kinds of illustrations useful to you?
Where would you fit 5 bathtubs in a hotel room? 🛀🏻 To be honest, I don’t know why you would do that. But that’s the amount of water (300L x 5) a single room uses EVERY day. Now multiply that by the number of rooms your hotel has. It adds up quickly. The problem? 🌍 Water scarcity is growing. And hotels are often located in regions already suffering from water stress. The good news: ⭐️ Under The Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), tracking and reporting water usage is no longer optional—it’s a requirement. P.S. Is your hotel already tracking its water usage? If not, it’s time to get compliant. We can help. Ref: https://lnkd.in/e6M8uia6

If water found material, by following a double materiality assessment, which it should be for most hotels... this is what you would have to report on under CSRD: 🔍 Impact, Risk, and Opportunity Management: - How you assess water-related risks and opportunities. - Your policies on water and marine resources. - Actions and resources dedicated to managing water use. 📊 Metrics & Targets: - Targets set for water management. - Data on your water consumption. - Financial effects from water-related risks and opportunities. Marine resources are also to consider for the coastal hotels and/or for impacts, risks and opportunities within their value chain.
