Our paper "Can Large Language Models Learn Independent Causal Mechanisms?" has just been accepted to #EMNLP2024! We investigate how to make LLMs reason with multiple independent causal mechanisms. Mixture-of-experts tend to have highly correlated modules. By contrast, we build autonomous LLM modules that specialise in specific distributions or learn domain-invariant representations. We show that our model can theoretically emulate causally independent modules and that, by adding causal principles, we can increase domain generalisation on reasoning tasks. Many thanks to my co-authors for their incredible help: BaoTrung Nguyen, Alex Peng, Michael Witbrock and Gill Dobbie! Find the paper here: https://lnkd.in/gUrWw4Zb.

Excited to share our latest blog post on leveraging prompts in LLMs to overcome imbalances in complex educational text data. This paper explores the potential of Large Language Models (LLMs) with assertions to mitigate imbalances in educational datasets. Traditional models often fall short in such contexts, particularly due to the complexity and nuanced nature of the data. Click the link to read more: https://bit.ly/3RQfLKE
