In a time where we are hearing about all of the anti-DEI rhetoric, let's remember what the opposites of DEI are: Diversity - Same Equity - Inequity Inclusion - Exclusion When I hear people say they are anti-DEI, I can't help but think that they are pro-SIE, Same, Inequity, Exclusion. Who wants that in education? I got to speak with administrators last fall on the pitfalls of AI. We collectively discussed the biases that exist in the training data. I commend the leaders for engaging in this work with us and continuing these vital conversations. This is also why I wanted the word "anti-racism" in our book title: STEM for ALL: How to connect, create, and cultivate anti-racism in STEM education to close opportunity gaps." Thank you to the educators that are leaning in to antiracist pedagogy, #4Real! Have you pre-ordered your copy? Exciting study reveals a brief intervention in introductory physics classes leads to improved outcomes for all students, regardless of gender. The intervention focused on belongingness and was shown to reduce feelings of isolation for students transitioning to college. The impact was especially significant in gender-diverse classrooms, where both men and women achieved higher grades and improved physics growth mindsets. This research underscores the importance of creating inclusive academic environments for everyone to thrive. #Inclusion #STEM #AcademicSuccess #Belongingness

Has the rise of STEM in education unintentionally sidelined the arts? While STEM emphasizes essential skills in science and technology, it often overlooks the arts' vital role in fostering belonging and mental well-being. Engaging in artistic pursuits creates community connections and enhances individual identity, promoting empathy and understanding across diverse backgrounds. As we push for innovation, are we neglecting the creativity that fuels true progress? It’s time to rethink our educational priorities and embrace a holistic approach that values both STEM and the arts equally. What do you think?

Running out of #STEM? Need more #STEAM. There's a growing debate about whether we need to radically adjust the current school cirriculum to embrace more Arts and #creativelearning. At a recent school #spraypaintworkshop, we invited a STEM educationalist to come down and check out what @ArtofProtest's approach brought to the #education party. "The Creative Arts allow for more risk taking, self-expression and ‘outside the box’ thinking. These are all important attributes we need when tackling our intractable and unpredictable problems." Read our blog to see what more he had to say on it. #creativelearning #creativity #STEMTtoSTEAM https://lnkd.in/eBCivejz

Really interesting interview with education expert Steve Roberts. After joining us at York High to witness our Creative Learning workshops in action, he talks to the AOP team about the dominance of a STEM-led system, and how moving from STEM to STEAM might look. He shares his views about the value of a creative learning environment, and what that has to offer, with many years of experience to back up his points and opinions. It's a really interesting conversation. What are your thoughts on the current STEM-led system, and the integration of art to move to STEAM?
