The flaw in question opens the door for cyber attackers to remotely execute arbitrary code on the affected devices, potentially leading to unauthorized access, data theft, or even integrating the routers into botnets. Ensign InfoSecurity has strongly advised users of the impacted routers to consider immediate replacement to prevent potential exploitation. Tan Ah Tuan, Head of Ensign, Ensign InfoSecurity, said, “We live in an increasingly connected world, with more devices linked to the internet than ever before. This gives attackers full access to IoT devices like routers, which were not designed to defend against sophisticated attacks, and lets them exploit bugs in the software and gain full control. Through the deployment of Ensign InfoSecurity’s proprietary tools our vulnerability researchers automated our analysis, discovered the zero-day vulnerability, and approached D-Link with the information. I was talking with a colleague of mine Carlos G. the other day, about the need for more convergence of physical and cyber security in organizations. I have posted some articles and blogs in the past, discussing the importance of the converged approach. #cisa published a document in 2021 that talks specifically to the reasons behind a convergence of the two.
