A Thinking Medium 05 | The Responsibility of Data and Design Freedom in the digital age comes at a price. To maintain its essence, we must uphold ethical design, cherish user responsibility, and safeguard the rights and privacy of all. As designers and data stewards, we wield immense power. Every interaction, every data point collected, shapes the experience and freedom of users in ways they may not even perceive. Our responsibility is to ensure that design doesn’t manipulate but empowers, that data isn’t exploited but respected, and that technology serves as a tool for equity and progress. Justice in UX means creating interfaces that are accessible to all, not just the privileged few. Responsibility means designing systems that prioritize privacy, transparency, and informed choice. Safeguarding liberties means ensuring users feel secure and respected in the digital spaces they inhabit. The question we must ask ourselves is: How can we create systems that respect freedom while enhancing the human experience? Let’s design with care, use data with integrity, and build a digital future that values justice, responsibility, and trust. Because true innovation isn’t just about what we create, it’s about the principles we protect. #AThinkingMedium #UXDesign #DataEthics #HumanCenteredDesign #DigitalFreedom #PrivacyByDesign #TIUM #DesignThinking #ByCameronCooper #UXDesign #DesignPhilosophy

The public sector is ripe with opportunities for UX and design research. Last week, I helped my friend Timothy Lo out at the National Contract Management Association (NCMA) World Congress. I'm not a government contracting expert, but I know enough to know that understanding and breaking into federal contracting can be a tough problem to tackle (see my colleague Jason Whetsell's post on this in the comments). The coolest part of NCMA for me was seeing and meeting all the folks trying to make federal contracting a more user-friendly, accessible, and efficient space. There's a multitude of new products, businesses, and thought leaders using design thinking to critically examine the federal acquisitions space and change the culture around it. What I sensed the most is that people are tired of the same old ways of operating and are eager to bring in new people, businesses, and ideas into the federal space. Food for thought: How can we, as UX, design, and strategy folks help this space shift and grow? #ux #govcon #designthinking

The internet is beautiful because it can connect you with kindred spirits you have never even met, like Hend Ezzeddine, Ph.D. "The journey to successful adoption is complex and multifaceted. It transcends beyond the traditional realms of effective change management and well-designed UX/UI. True adoption hinges on understanding and designing for the ‘Job-to-be-Done’, nurturing a conducive adoption ecosystem within organizational structures and cultures, and recognizing the pivotal role of human interaction with technology." 🤩 This article beautifully summarizes what I have been attempting to say: User Adoption Design is THE critical discipline for this new era of business upon which we are all embarking.
USER ADOPTION DESIGN IS THE NEW DISCIPLINE YOU NEED
