When Tolkowsky wrote and published his “Diamond Design” thesis in 1919, faceted girdles were not as common as they are today. Actually faceted girdles were reserved for very fine and large diamonds while most others possessed knife edged girdles.. This means, Tolkowsky never specified girdle thickness for his optimal light path calculations.., for a full century since, diamond cutters have adopted the Tolkowsky proportions as an axiom even further adapting various fancy shapes to the proportions. Pre 1919 antique diamonds possessing knife edge girdles were crafted each on their own merits which presented individual play of light shows and have offered potentially beautiful standardless diamond cuts. Post 1919 as the industry standardized the wide range of brilliant cut shapes, cutters & polishers should have taken this little account into consideration as girdle thickness also change other proportions such as total depths and/or crown and pavilion height percentages. Each in which have an immediate effect on the way diamonds play of lights. #tolkowsky #diamondspecifications #DiamondDesign #historians #knifeedgegirdle #roundbrilliant

Part II A couple of days ago I posted a picture of a pair of yellow Old Mine diamond pears while asserting that some characteristics which I believe need to be present in order for yellow diamonds to be considered true “rarities”! https://lnkd.in/dcFERr9R I mentioned three that came to mind; 1st. Diamond’s play of light must be its primary optical objective by design definition (as opposed to the more common color zone retention). 2nd. Its true magical color must be prominent from all and every viewing direction the diamond is looked upon (not just from its face-up)! 3rd. The diamond must illuminate a dramatic and mysterious appearance and look, one that will not just capture our human desire optically, but not less important also mentally. Today I am posting a profile view of a true yellow rarity, it's an Old Mine Cut which loves to expose its true optical wonders from all its viewing angles, in this exemplar, a full on view of its super high crown section which truly defines what a diamond crown should look like!! This picture also offers a viewing angle glimpse of its pavilion section which is not less impressive than its top section, I believe a validation to my assertion. ……………… #gemconcepts #yellowdiamonds #rarediamonds #coloreddiamonds #fancyvividyellow #playoflight #oldminecut #antiquediamonds #rarediamonds #diamonddesign #canarydiamonds #vividyellow

A 5.01ct Old Mine Cut Diamond Old Mine Cuts are akin to humans: unique, flawed, characterful, and predominantly beautiful. This 5.01ct diamond is a splendid representation of the allure inherent in antique diamonds. These stones are considered the pioneers of "brilliant cuts," with their faceting and structure bearing a resemblance to those seen in today's modern diamonds. Yet, Old Mine Cuts carry a distinctiveness all their own, as each was handcrafted by an artisan who relied on skill and artistry rather than the precision of today's computer-aided designs. The growing interest in original antique diamonds over recent years may be an indication of a broader desire for authenticity in a world often filled with superficiality. . . . . #oldcutdiamond #antiquediamond #cushiondiamond #diamondsareforever #naturaldiamonds #oldminecutdiamond #antiquering #oldminecut #diamondsolitaire #antiquejewelrycollector #jewellerydesign #oldeuro #cushioncutdiamond #oldmine #realisrare

What technology or tool did they possess in the second century AD to be able to carve this statue on the hardest types of marble with such amazing precision? This is not possible unless they have advanced technologies. Now, despite the claim of technology and progress, we do not see such sculpture at the present time,

Bright White's clear, crisp colour will be the primary focus in any setting. When used with other solid blocks of colour, it can create a striking contrast, as seen here on this exterior at Tectum Group. https://lnkd.in/emUB3bKT
