✨ Women in Tech Spotlight - Andrianna Hamwright ✨ Today's Women In Technology (WIT) Single Mother's Program Alumni I'd like to introduce is Andrianna E Hamwright! Andrianna was part of our first cohort and also was a past winner of our Single Mother of the Year Award. Personally, I cannot say enough great things about her. Her positive energy is infectious. She's a very hard worker and extremely generous in helping those around her. Any organization would be lucky to have her on their team! Here's a little more about Andrianna in her own words: ➡️ Career Achievements: 1) Learning what a junior analyst would learn in 5 years, I learned in 3 years. I became a Certified Software Center, Splunk Admin, CYSA and many more cybersecurity certs. 2) My second significant career achievement is that I was hired as a software center with no prior experience to a company I grew up going to in the Northeast region as a child. Allowing my heart to stop shedding tears because I was wishing I could shop there to having my heart shed tears of joy. ➡️ Passionate Technology Areas: Security (Cyber, network, fraud, SOC, Tier 2 or Tier 3 help desk) and Business Analytics ➡️ Desired Roles/Job Titles: Manager, Tier 2 or Tier 3, Lead positions, Infosec analyst, SOC analyst, Cybersecurity Analyst, IT Analyst, Fraud Specialist/Analyst ➡️ Contributions to Diversity and Inclusion: I attend up to date workshops from community based networking events to better understand and grow in DEI. I also continually volunteer and bring my little ladybug to DEI events to see how we can help and add our help. ➡️ Fun fact: I am a twin and I have lost 20 lbs. The weight loss was 80% stress and 20% bad weight. Just to be able to move forward and continue to be involved with WIT has helped me lose this unweighted stress. It was almost as if it was laid aside.

Cyber and AI Governance (CAIG) Companeros; I would like to bring to your memory when all these people, last year mind you, was "hollaring" out the Cybersecurity needed 1 million people. That people was "hell bent" on training and getting people in the cybersecurity pipeline because those jobs are out there. Remember that? The question never asked was #1. where were those jobs being made and #2. what about the people already working in those position. Oh, and #3. where did the number "1 million" magically come from? Where is the data to support this? And didn't GAI just come out the previous November 2022? Then the massive layoffs started. CompTIA has been a staple, a lighthouse, and "lamp on a hill" during all of this. Steve Ostrowski, Corporate Communications Director, has been laying down the truth ever since he took the position. AI is going to change cybersecurity!!! From the SOC analyst to Security Engineering and nobody has any idea or pathway how. There needs to be a "Cyber Technology Council" of all these groups and individuals (outside of the government), to come together and form a consensus of how to go forward. Too much duplication of effort with the Workforce. To develop a rudimentary pathway to present to these certifications companies to support in implementation. Not the other way around!! The industry "tells" the certification companies what is viable and what is needed to perpetuate sustainability in field. Not the other way around!! The industry creates the tech, and the certifications backed it up with testable competencies. This is what happened at the Millennium, the Dot.com Bubble and now with the 5IR with GAI. Or jobs are going to get lost without and Workforce Development Plan to reskill the masses. Where did you hear this before at the beginning of 2023? Guess.

Just finished reading the article "You might have the skills that cyber-security wants" on the BBC website. According to ISC2, an organisation for cyber-security professionals, 39% of new employees in the industry are transitioning from non-IT roles. The article highlights case studies from people who made successful moves into cyber-security and shows that despite its technical reputation, the sector is open to talent from diverse backgrounds. Anyone can make it in cyber if they have the passion to. Having written countless articles concerning the IT skills gap over the last decade, I think this is fantastic news for the cyber market. By attracting non-IT professionals it is opening up new angles for innovation and problem-solving, which ultimately makes the industry stronger and more adaptable. It would be great to see these stats replicated in other markets, and hopefully we will. https://lnkd.in/etM8n9gE #CyberSecurity #CareerTransition #DiversityInTech #CyberJobs

#Day_7_of_8: 🌐 Excited to share that I’ve just completed the JP Morgan Chase & co. Cybersecurity Job Simulation on Forage - June 2024 Throughout the simulation, I : 📊 Analyzed a large dataset of fraud in financial payment services, developing critical insights into patterns and prevention techniques. 🔐 Learned about application security fundamentals and applied this knowledge to improve the security of my own website. 📧 Built an email classifier to distinguish between spam and legitimate emails, honing my skills in machine learning and data analysis. These hands-on experiences have been invaluable in broadening my understanding of fraud detection, application security, and email classification. I'm excited to apply these skills in future projects! #DataAnalysis #ApplicationSecurity #MachineLearning #FraudDetection #EmailClassification #SkillDevelopment

Bit of a humble brag, but isn't it great when you have an idea that comes together? What started as a feature pitch ended up with Panaseer, Chartered Institute of Information Security and Secureworks all in the same BBC piece! This is my Sistine Chapel. Key ingredients were: A journalist that's happy to talk through an idea and collaborate to find an angle that's both timely and interesting, and willing to take time to speak to a few people to verify the idea - thank you Sean McManus. Clients that are bold enough to speak candidly about their careers and the industry - thank you Leila Powell, Amanda Finch FCIIS and Rebecca Taylor. /// I love the big splash campaigns in PR, but sometimes simply bringing a few people together drives great results. Hopefully, this piece can inspire people from outside of the #cybersecurity industry to think twice before discarding the idea of a career in the sector because they don't think they have the experience. https://lnkd.in/e4vfnZ8X

You should read the whole thing, but I'll give you the answer here: "layoffs can create conditions where disgruntled employees, facing stress or job insecurity, are more inclined towards risky behaviors that heighten vulnerability to breaches." Not exactly news, but good confirmation of a gut feeling that we've all known intrinsically for a while. The researchers propose "Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives emphasizing ethical conduct and data security during layoffs could potentially mitigate these risks." I have less faith in that approach - and think the cost effective way to manage this risk is to cut access to employees who are going to be laid off as early as possible. Harsh, sure, but if the goal is to protect the business, it's the right choice. Humans remain the hardest part of cybersecurity.
