Last week, I had the privilege of conducting a session on 'AI Products – Beyond Just a Wrapper' at XLRI Delhi-NCR during ElevateX, their annual summit on entrepreneurship. During my sixth EDP class, I had the opportunity to engage with Raunak Singhvi, a highly experienced professional with over 11 years in strategy consulting and finance. Mr. Singhvi delivered a comprehensive session focused on securing startup funding, drawing upon his extensive experience with companies valued at billions. The discussion encompassed crucial topics including entrepreneurship, investor clarity, fundraising modes, equity dilution, Byjus Downfall, and exit options for investors. Here's what I learned: Market Research: The foundation of any successful startup lies in understanding your audience thoroughly. It's not just about having a good idea; it's about comprehending people's real problems and providing a solution that truly makes a difference. Capital & Funding: Raising money is crucial, but it's not just about obtaining funds. Investors are interested in your vision for growth, the scalability of your idea, and how well you've planned things out. It's about presenting with clarity and purpose. Financial Planning: One key takeaway is the importance of having a robust financial plan before approaching investors. You need to know how much you need, why you need it, and how you plan to generate returns. This level of preparation can make all the difference. Networking: Ultimately, it all comes down to people. Being accountable can be fun too. I realized this at Arman Sood's (co-founder of Sleepy Owl Coffee) Delhi office! During a recent visit to the Sleepy Owl Coffee office, something on the wall caught my eye. It turned out to be more than just a 'wall of fame.' When I asked about it, Armaan explained that it is a visual way to keep the team accountable. What made it stand out? The wall wasn't just plastered with professional goals like hitting EBITA targets and revenue numbers. Personal aspirations, like lowering body fat percentages, improving chess scores, and traveling more, were also proudly displayed alongside. This innovative approach highlighted a powerful truth: accountability can be downright fun and drive results, even for personal targets. Being accountable doesn't always have to be boring, serious, and stressful. What an amazing way to foster a sense of community and motivate everyone to support each other's overall well-being.
