At the World Agri-Tech Innovation Summit in Dubai, it’s been incredibly inspiring to connect with agribusiness leaders from the MENA region and the U.S. The unique exchange of U.S. companies coming to the Middle East desert to learn about solutions and innovators from around the world gathered together with key stakeholders from the region creates great value! It’s been inspiring to engage in discussions on how innovation from companies like Desert Control can improve the profitability and resilience of desert farming, enabling growers to produce more with less water and fewer inputs. As we celebrate the success of Goumbook's MENAT Regenerative Agriculture Venture Programme's inaugural year, we look back on the transformative journey it has been! We set out with the ambition to drive awareness of Regenerative Agriculture for the MENAT region. By supporting regional research and nature-based solutions, we wanted to tackle the unique challenges of the region in agriculture, food systems, and climate change and provide customised solutions. Our aim was to bridge the gap between academia and the private sector, providing a supportive ecosystem for impactful scaling. AGRI’EXPO SEFROU: DRIVING INNOVATION IN MOROCCO'S AGRICULTURE SECTOR The inaugural edition of Agri’Expo in Sefrou, Morocco, highlighted the growing role of technology in transforming the country’s agricultural landscape. Organized by the Green Open Lab Foundation and led by founder Amine Zerouk, the event brought together farmers, tech innovators, and industry experts for a two-day exploration of smart agriculture solutions. With a focus on fostering connections between farmers and cutting-edge technologies, Agri’Expo served as a marketplace for agricultural solutions, showcasing innovations like IoT smart irrigation and drone technology aimed at enhancing productivity, resource efficiency, and sustainability in Moroccan farming. The event featured a series of engaging panel discussions on the challenges and opportunities of integrating technology into Morocco’s agricultural practices. Experts, entrepreneurs, and academics discussed ways to develop the agri-tech ecosystem, encourage farmer participation, and support innovation through education and entrepreneurship. The event also included a pavilion where companies and startups showcased their technologies to optimize water use, seed planting, and fertilizer consumption. This initiative aligns with the broader goals of Morocco’s Generation Green 2020-2030 strategy to modernize agriculture, increase resilience to climate change, and ensure food sovereignty. Agri’Expo also included an olive oil producers’ competition and the launch of the Green Open Challenge, a collaborative project aimed at accelerating the growth of agri-tech entrepreneurship.
