Honoring Veterans: Building Bridges, Empowering Heroes “A hero is someone who steps up when others back down.” Today, on Veterans Day, I’m reminded of an experience that showed me the value veterans bring to our teams in ways we may not always understand. I had received funding to hire a data engineering fellow through the “Hiring Our Heroes” program, a chance to welcome a veteran into our team. When the resumes came in, each was marked with military rankings and terms unfamiliar to me. For a moment, I felt out of my depth. But then, Rene—our own team hero and a veteran—stepped up to help. Rene explained what each designation meant, showing me how military experience translates to the skills we need. Together, we carefully selected candidates, ultimately finding someone who brought both technical skills and an incredible sense of purpose. Interviewing him was a moment of clarity. His perspective, discipline, and resilience—shaped by his service—stood out. Offering him a full-time role became the easiest decision I’ve ever made. This experience reminds me of the value veterans bring to our teams. Here’s how we, as leaders, can start to empower them: #1Lean on veterans in your team – their insights are powerful bridges between military and corporate worlds. #2Recognize skills beyond the resume – veterans often bring organization, resilience, and adaptability. (Our own team's example: Rene Olivera) #3Support programs like “Hiring Our Heroes” – giving back to those who’ve served makes our teams stronger. Today, I celebrate veterans everywhere and encourage all leaders to do the same. Let’s honor their experience, learn from them, and empower them in return. ----------------------------------------- Ambika Soorappaiah #VeteransDay #HonoringHeroes #Leadership #InclusiveTeams #Empowerment #HiringOurHeroes #DiversityAndInclusion #MilitaryTalent #Gratitude #LeadershipInAction

🌟 Honoring Veterans Beyond Veterans Day 🌟 Yesterday was Veterans Day, and I was truly inspired by all the posts from talent leaders sharing their experiences. 💙 Talent Acquisition is such a fantastic career path for those with military backgrounds, blending people, process, and systems perfectly. But while we do a great job honoring our veterans on days like yesterday, are we doing enough to help them find fulfilling careers in our organizations? 🤔 I've seen many of our amazing customers taking proactive steps to make their opportunities accessible for folks with military backgrounds. Here are a few impactful actions they’re taking: 🔹 Participate in programs like Hiring Our Heroes or the DoD-SkillBridge program. 🔹 Create a dedicated page on your careers site showing veterans how they can join your organization and how you’ll support them. (Conagra Brands does this incredibly well—link to their page below! 👇) 🔹 Make job ads truly inclusive and welcoming. Something as simple as a note in your EEO statement encouraging veterans to apply can make a difference. One of our university customers optimized their job ads and saw a 60% increase in veteran applicants! 📈 🔹 Prioritize skills-based job ads over strict educational requirements. Do you really need that MBA or PhD listed? Allow incredible candidates to showcase their real-world experience instead. 🎖️ Let's make sure we're not only remembering veterans but actively helping them thrive in our workplaces. 💼✨

This Veterans Day, we proudly highlight Nomer Evangelista, a dedicated Data Analyst at Graham Tech and a valued member of our veteran community. We asked Nomer about his journey transitioning from military to civilian life and his experiences at Graham Tech. Here’s what he shared: What was the most challenging part of transitioning from military service to civilian work life? "Navigating the uncertainty and adapting to a less-structured environment was challenging. Unlike the military’s defined paths, civilian life offers many options and varied communication styles. Learning to thrive in a collaborative, consensus-driven culture took time, but it was rewarding." Any wisdom for fellow veterans making the shift? "Stay open to learning and adapt. Your military values—resilience, integrity, dedication—are invaluable. Network, reach out to others who've transitioned, and invest in training if needed. The foundation you have can lead to exciting opportunities." A memorable moment at Graham Tech? "When I applied, Graham Tech’s quick and personal response stood out. Within a week, I had an interview and soon after, an offer. The supportive onboarding and welcoming environment made me realize I’d joined an exceptional company. I’m truly grateful for the opportunity." To Nomer and all veterans, thank you for your service. We honor your sacrifices and are proud to support your journeys in civilian life. #VeteransDay #GrahamTech #VeteransInTech #TransitionSuccess #ThankYouVeterans #DataAnalytics #Teamwork
