We'll join the #SpotifyWrapped fun! Thank you for supporting The Talent Trade this year. We are so proud of the growth this show has had since it began in late 2023. Stephanie Maas is a wildly gifted recruiter, and turns out she is just as skilled at teaching others to do the same. More to come!

I had no idea what to expect from this evening, it initially caught me off-guard… but I thoroughly enjoyed it! Thanks Barry Cranford (of RecWorks Ltd fame) for putting together tonight’s Unconference, and enlisting me to be a Chief Marshall, I feel it could be my second calling. For the uninitiated, an unconference is an event where you - THE PEOPLE - decide what to talk about. A fun, informal event with plenty of thought-provoking discussions and takeaways. One takeaway for the fractional ops people: think about the market you’re targeting, our skills are more valuable to specific markets depending on where they are in their lifecycle 💭 #BestTechRecruiter

Okay pivot fans (Rosie Baker Amy Gostling Kate Staples I'm looking at you, as you asked) here's my intel... Royal Television Society Midlands put on a really insightful 'building a portfolio career' event today. There was a great panel discussion from industry folk who all have successful and very different (skills training, copywriting, sport podcasts….) ‘portfolio careers’ with a lot of the diversification beginning out of need in covid. Much was made of the importance in connecting and networking, but being strategic and focussed with this. We looked at what our huge bags of skills are which we often take for granted but we need to capitalise on as they’re hugely transferrable. How to package these for industries outside of TV including how to sell our skills in an interview, and the misconception of terms such as creativity/editorial/production, so the need for clarity in what you can offer. Due to the nature of the industry recruitment process, we are ingrained to talk about our experiences rather than our skills. My main takeaways are… ✅ A new motivation and insight into how to be more focussed with networking and making meaningful connections. Put yourself out there but in the right places. ✅ A confidence that I need to acknowledge my honed skills, developed in a challenging industry where problem solving, storytelling, packaging of ideas, communication and people skills can be of benefit to most companies/industries. ✅ It’s reassuring to be in a room of people who appreciate the downturn struggle and want to offer support. ✅ Birmingham is really cool City. I love a Wharf. ✅ Never buy a coffee at Pumpkin café at Hereford station. £3.90 for a non-artisanal coffee. Downturn or no downturn, that’s a joke. All-in-all a really productive and positive day spent with the delightful Emma Lyne as my partner in crime 😀
