💡 Insightful read from HBR on correcting pronouns: Remember, when someone corrects you on their pronouns, they're giving you a valuable opportunity to course correct. Acknowledge the correction, thank them, and move forward. Use any discomfort as a learning moment to ensure it doesn’t happen again. Inclusivity starts with small, respectful actions. 🌈
If you call someone the wrong pronoun, give a simple apology, and immediately make the correction by restating the sentence where you misgendered the individual. 🏳️🌈

📢 Check your Algorithm. In our busyness, it’s so easy to forget and we begin to just accept what’s happening around us as the norm… I'm not just talking about our online footprint, but in our everyday life. October 7th changed everything... I came to LinkedIn and saw a sea of Isr4Helli flags. Everyone around me had latched onto key talking points perpetuated by Western Media… 40 beheaded babies, Terrorist attack + Anti-Semitism to name a few. It was like nothing had come before. There was a separation of history, fact, social, economical and political realities. With a convenient signing off - ‘I’m not an expert.’ ‘I don’t want to do politics on LinkedIn’ - Click. Publish. I watched some of the most privileged people around me garner and rally a level of support that was so inward facing - they had become a victim. I didn’t feel right. This wasn’t about us…. I had questions - I couldn’t accept that this was ‘complicated.’ The last 10 months has been a deeply difficult but important unlearning and learning journey for me. I had to change my algorithm… it wasn’t serving me anymore. ❗️It wasn’t educating me - It wasn’t answering my questions. ❗️It didn’t align to my values - it wasn’t creating a space and a World that I want to live in. So I’ve followed some of the most incredibly brave, critical thinking, powerful voices to actually understand what is happening in the World and why it’s happening… I’ve read new books and papers by experts and people that have lived through unimaginable experiences, offering a different and important perspective. Katie, does a far better job of explaining it then I ever could. Thank you for sharing Miral Askar 🙏🏼 It's an important listen. #humanrights #algorithm https://lnkd.in/eZHwHdk2

Ok, it feels important to say this. I am not pulling my perspective on Israel Palestine out of my hat. I’m not just guessing that Israel is committing genocide against Palestine. I have studied and researched this, I have bona fides, and I will share them. First of all I’m a Jewish woman. I was raised by a Zionist family. My grandfather was a Holocaust survivor. My family talks about our spirit of resistance and resilience constantly. Desiring goodness from the nation of Israel is in my blood, and still I can see that the Zionist state is vicious, violent and evil. If someone who was raised by a Zionist family, by people who believe that Israel has the right to exist and that it is our salvation if I can overcome my pro-Israel bias and learn about this conflict, so can you and frankly I should not be calling it a conflict, it’s genocide. So when I was in college around 2012-2013, a bunch of my friends and loved ones started going on bright right trips, and I knew enough then to ask the question when they got back from their birthright trips what about Palestine. And when these people I love, admire and respect started talking about Palestinians and using language like terrorists, I knew I had to learn more. I also knew that I wanted to go on birthright and I was nervous about being brainwashed by the trip and I should have been nervous. So before I went on birthright I decided at my small Liberal art school in Massachusetts to get a well-rounded perspective, educational perspective, on Israeli Palestinian politics. I took four courses, Suffering & Evil in the Jewish Tradition, The Jewish Experience, Middle East Politics and Arab Israel Conflict. I also took international & comparative politics courses that often brought up Israel and Palestine in comparisons to for example Apartheid South Africa. And by the time I finished my ample coursework on the subject before I went on birthright, I was already pro-Palestine, because once you are in literature, once you are in the research, not media stories about this, not the pro-Zionist rigmarole on CNN and MSNBC, once you are in the literature and the data, this isn’t a debate, this isn’t a question. People talk about Israel Palestine like it is incredibly complicated and I reject that premise, it is not. We know anti-Semitism exists globally, right. We know that Jews are not the most beloved population in the world. We know that Britain has a colonial history and they have taken on colonial projects, even though the 20th and 21st centuries. Essentially Britain already wanted to colonize Palestine, so did the United States. And at the end of World War Two Britain and the US got to talking and they thought who we want to exploit for military labor, some place that is surrounded by brown people so that we can rape and pillage land that we don’t currently have access to.
