Is there a scenario where transparency in local government is ill-advised? Should the public have the right to know who all the candidates are for a City Manager role? Does this transparency negatively impact attracting a large candidate pool? The following article highlights two concurrent City Manager searches in Florida (New Smyrna Beach and Treasure Island). Due to Florida law allowing the names of all candidates to be made public at an early stage in the recruitment process, the news has identified James Slaton as a candidate for both communities as well as identifying other semi-finalists and alternates candidates. My take is that the value of the transparency sought here is significantly outweighed by the damage it does to potential candidates and the hesitancy of employed City Managers to check out these opportunities. The vetting and scrutiny of these candidates needs to be handled by the recruitment firm and the elected officials. Having the public watching the process to me provides no value to the decision making process and reeks of gossiping and reality TV. Let these candidates explore new opportunities without the risk of losing their current jobs. What are your thoughts? https://lnkd.in/eWvFUyjA

Hamilton County faces a unique challenge: job opportunities are growing, but participation is declining. This is partly because most job listings have high school or no education requirements, while over 60% of residents have bachelor's degrees or higher. According to the Talent InSight 2030 Forecasting Report, overall employment in Hamilton County is expected to grow by 11% in Hamilton County by 2030. However, there will be some exceptions to this trend. These job market changes will significantly impact Hamilton County's workforce. Read more about these insights from the Talent InSight 2030 Forecasting Report in the link below. https://lnkd.in/g4ec-HpJ

After a brief break from social media whilst you're travelling recruiter was away in Liverpool for a few days - side note to the golfers out there, Wallasey is a must play if you get a chance 🏌️, and yes I did somehow take this photo📸 - we're back for the push towards the summer holiday season☀️. The recruitment market river continues to flow at a steady if unspectacular pace. Signs some firms have been delaying their recruitment until the 2nd half of the year which falls in line with the more cautious FS recruitment market this year. Reg pressure remains for firms and those stresses will not go away. The market remains hard/impossible to predict but one thing I will be doing is soaking up some vitamin D☀️☀️☀️ in my breaks as one thing I can predict is that this weather will not last!!! #recruitment #travellingrecruiter

May 2024 Houston Area Employment Situation May continued to build on April’s rebound from March putting Houston’s job market back on solid footing. Restaurants, bars, and hotels geared up for the summer holiday season while Construction finally hit a major milestone almost three years in the making. The substitution of brick-and-mortar retail jobs for warehousing and logistics continued with the former facing additional headwinds over the next couple of months in light of recent retail bankruptcy announcements. Private Education Services saw an unusually large decline for this time year while Healthcare added fewer jobs than typical over the month. See the Supplemental Commentary on page 3 of the report for more details including which sectors are responsible for nearly half of all jobs added in the past year. -Parker #jobs #employment #May2024 #unemployment #economy #houston #uiclaims
