Notice a pattern? 👀 🌱 Applying for Scottish Enterprise funding above £10,000? Net Zero Action Plan. 🏛️ Bidding for a public sector contract? Carbon Reduction Plan. 🤞 Applying for a National Lottery Heritage grant? “Projects should reduce negative environmental impact.” As Scotland’s 2045 net-zero goal draws nearer, other organisations are likely to follow suit. Having a plan in place for how you’ll shrink your planet-heating emissions is crucial for running a thriving business in the 2020s. Climate Springboard is a free six-week programme to help Scottish SMEs to meet these growing requirements – and set out on their own net-zero journey. Places are still available in the next cohort, starting 24th October! Sign up: https://lnkd.in/dCbJEpkq

It’s time. The 1.5 degree scenario is not a warning, so at this year’s #ClimateWeekNYC it’s time to make the crucial decisions and take the action we need to start taking. Today, our team is at the SCALE Climate Week Action Dialogue alongside governors, mayors, civil society, private sector, and many more that are committed to enhancing and supporting subnational climate ambition. The role of the private sector is also a key discussion point at today’s events, and what business should be doing right now to cut carbon. One of the most successful drivers of emissions reduction from buildings is policy. So we are also spotlighting the role that businesses can play in collaborative advocacy efforts to increase policy ambition such as those led by Green Building Councils. Later in the week, our Director of Impact Dr Stephen Richardson will also be exploring the ways to encourage private finance alongside the Bankers4NetZero and Race to Zero. Across the week, our team is attending key #builtenvironment events, convened by several of WorldGBC’s partners: Breakthrough Agenda, Carrier, Climate Group, Grimshaw, Laudes Foundation, IKEA Foundation, Saint-Gobain, We Mean Business Coalition, World Economic Forum (Green Building Consortium and Circularity Lighthouse), Holcim, Heidelberg Materials, Signify, Arup, C40 Cities and Urban Partners, amongst others. We must act now to ensure that business leaders and governments are taking the right steps to meet our 2030 global climate goals. Essential reading on Net Zero transition from Karen Bickerstaff and colleagues at UK ACCESS network. https://lnkd.in/emW9JfhP "Our work shows the huge opportunities, and wide range of benefits, that can be delivered through sustained action to reduce demand for energy. To achieve net zero we need actors from across society to be engaged. Actors that work at the mid-level, between scales, silos and sectors, are especially important. Engaging citizens in meaningful debate about change and generating positive visions of a net zero future will also be essential."

Green growth is at an inflection point. Taking action on the energy transition is no longer just the right thing to do—it’s where the profit pools are. Market shifts, changing consumer preferences, and the estimated $100-150 trillion needed to reach net zero by 2050 are creating new value opportunities. #ClimateWeekNYC confirmed that companies are accelerating action to capture these opportunities. Discussions with clients have moved from setting targets to finding solutions, and now, we’re talking about using business strengths to pursue green growth opportunities. 🌱📈 I had the chance to sit down with BCG’s North America Climate Lead, Vinay Shandal, to discuss the accelerating pace of change. Having worked with Vinay to grow BCG’s Climate and Sustainability practice over three years, we’ve witnessed the rapid evolution of this field firsthand. For companies to seize this opportunity, they need to leverage existing skills and assets to build new requisite capabilities, secure innovative financing solutions, build strategic partnerships, and anticipate regulatory changes. Thank you to Vinay and all the BCGers and clients who turned out in New York for what was an incredibly successful and high-energy event. How is your organization positioning itself to capture the value of green growth? Let’s collaborate for a sustainable future! #BCGatClimateWeek24 #BCGatUNGA24 #NYC #ClimateAction #GreenGrowth

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗬𝗼𝗿𝗸: 𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗜𝗧 𝗮𝘁 𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝗡𝗬𝗖 by SEI — Stockholm Environment Institute Every year, #ClimateWeekNYC unites key #stakeholders from #government, #business and #civilsociety, all committed to tackle the #climatecrisis. The #theme for 2024 was “It’s Time,” reinforcing the need for urgent action. Over the course of eight days, there were more than 900 official #events exploring the need to break down barriers to progress on global #climate #goals. The Leadership Group for Industry Transition (LeadIT) co-hosted two events, participated in several others across the city, and introduced a new member, the #Swedish #steel scale-up Stegra. #Keyreflections Here is a glimpse of what we saw and heard at our own and other events with a focus on industry decarbonization: ✅ There is substantial and increasing engagement around #industry decarbonization, with leading #countries driving new #projects and #initiatives. ✅ There is #consensus that #solutions for a #greenindustry transition exist and must be scaled in a just way, achievable only through multi-stakeholder and cross-regional #collaboration. What was called “hard-to-abate” a few years ago has now become “possible-to-abate.” ✅ One of the most crucial #challenges is mobilizing #demand for #greenmaterials to unlock final #investment decisions for industry #decarbonization projects. However, real-world success stories that could be replicated are still rare. ✅ Questions around trade and common but differentiated #responsibilities must be addressed with more #engagement and #inclusiveness. While steps towards a #greentransition have been made, accelerating decarbonization efforts in a way that is just and reflects the urgency of unlocking new #technologies before more high-emission #capacity gets locked in will be key. ✅ While there is #agreement on the importance of more #public and multilateral #finance for industry decarbonization, there is still less attention on how such assistance will mobilize #investments from commercial #financiers. Going forward, stakeholders must collaborate to ensure that increasing de-risking from the public sector indeed unlocks private engagement at the scale and speed needed. ✅ It is becoming increasingly clear that #renewable #capacity additions are lagging behind what heavy industry sectors need to decarbonize, both in higher- and lower-income countries.
