It still amazes me how much I can learn when I just stop and listen. As a wealth advisor at Morton Wealth, I have listened to many conversations with Baby Boomers about how they don’t understand the money choices their children make. On the other hand, when talking to Millennials I frequently hear that they wish their parents would open up their wallets and spend a bit more to enjoy life. This can be a tough topic with lots of potential for conflict between generations with different life experiences. At the recent Morton Wealth 2024 Investor Symposium, my (#Millennial) colleagues, Stacey McKinnon and Beau Wirick, CFP® and I (representing the #BabyBoomers) took a deeper dive into this fascinating issue. Did you know that Baby Boomers had accumulated 30% more wealth by the age of 35 than Millennials at the same age? Why is that? Did we as Baby Boomer parents completely fail to teach our children how to save? Or, did the Great Financial Crisis delay the wealth accumulation process for Millennials to the point where they may never catch up? Feedback from the audience told us this is an important issue and worth more exploration and understanding. To get the conversation started, watch for the video of “How Different Generations Think About Money” coming soon from the Morton Wealth team.

Interesting insights on millennial investing which has lessons for the philanthropy world. - Communication should be ‘frequent, timely and interactive’ - Alternative methods of engagement such as ‘podcasts, webinars and interactive platforms’ - Being part of communities ‘online and offline’, they want to feel ‘connected’ Younger investors are shunning the methods that were used for their parents and grandparents. ‘Put simply, the next generation of investors is fundamentally different from predecessors. They are digital-first, demanding transparency, engagement and accessibility’ #philanthropy #investing #millenials #giving

While all generations prefer to give online using a credit/debit card, there is some variance in what delivery method most inspires each generation to give. Millenials and Gen X are most inspired to give by social media, while Baby Boomers still prefer email. Are you keeping track of trends in giving to inspire your target market? #philanthropy #onlinegiving
