I am finding some places which actually publish the news without having political or social bias! It is really refreshing to see. I encourage you to consider the "The Free Press" as a source where you read your news. You can get a free subscription which gives you limited access but still solid unbiased reporting or for only $80 a year you can get full access. I am currently using the free one to see how it goes but will mostly like subscribe to full access later. Take a look and be encouraged that times of bias are really starting to slowly change in reporting the news.

I'm no media critic, but I've written a lot about how the American media infrastructure doesn't seem up to the task of covering this year's election. I've also been thinking a lot about where the blame for that lies. It's easy to come for reporters with bylines or commentators and columnists, and I'm guilty of doing that. It's not the full story, however. I've realized that a lot of my frustrations should be directed at upper management. Because the same executives who have gutted newsrooms with layoffs and shut down outlets entirely also make hires like Ronna McDaniel. The organized resistance at NBC News was impressive. Everyone from union employees to Chuck Todd and Rachel Maddow leveraged their platforms to speak out and hold management accountable. I've always had a lot of respect for how NBC and MSNBC cover the issues I write about, and I know from talking to folks there that, as an organization, they generally do a better job of protecting journalists under threat from MAGA than a lot of other newsrooms. That culture might have contributed to the show of solidarity with one another as they held the line and fought for the integrity of their newsrooms. Voters deserve better than the political coverage we're currently getting, especially in terms of what the stakes of this election are. They need to understand that our rights and freedoms are being taken away, and once again, American Democracy is on the ballot. I don't necessarily object to hiring a political operative as a contributor, but Ronna McDaniel was involved in attempts to overturn a national election. The rhetoric she and her colleagues in Trump World regularly said about journalists incited violence and put journalists in danger. She shouldn't be a paid contributor on any network news program. Moving forward, I plan to be more careful in my media critiques. My baseline question: is this the fault of the people you see or the management you don't? The answer won't always be the latter, but I think it's important to always consider the question.

Check out this piece that references my column earlier this year. It’s a great read.
Old narratives die hard, but if anybody can usher forth narrative change it's the local media who carry the charge everyday and the defenders like those who stepped up recently. What should a defense look like? Darren Nichols set the bar high when he clapped back at Detroit haters earlier in the year. I wrote about the changing Detroit stereotype for The Conversation. https://lnkd.in/gmfR5M_w
Trump’s Detroit insults are based on old narratives local media are rewriting every day
