A new World Health Organization scoping review uncovers significant gaps in evidence and understanding of the actual and potential impact of #ClimateChange on #malaria and #NTDs. The review comes at a critical time, with much of the progress made against these diseases at risk if future climatic changes render previously effective interventions ineffective. The time to mobilise is now. Read our news piece 👉 https://brnw.ch/21wK3Y7 NIHR (National Institute for Health and Care Research) Uganda Virus Research Institute #BeatNTDs #endmalaria #GlobalHealth

🔅 Hello LinkedIn Family 🔅 I wanted to bring to your attention an important health issue that is currently unfolding. ❗The World Health Organization has declared a global health emergency due to the recent Monkey Pox (Mpox) outbreak in Africa as of August 14! This virus has been around for a few years, but it has recently re-emerged with increased strength. I have just completed a series of awareness courses through the World Health Organization website that offers courses covering essential topics such as basic information, how the disease spreads, clinical symptoms, disaster preparedness, and surveillance. These resources are valuable for healthcare professionals and epidemic response teams. 🔸️I have provided the links below. Please share it with your network, as this information is really important. https://lnkd.in/eUsV8qg3 https://lnkd.in/e-Ryfy-b #HealthAlert #GlobalHealth #MpoxOutbreak #WorldHealthOrganization #StayInformed #ProtectYourselfandOthers

The Mpox epidemic underscores the critical importance of surveillance and data in driving informed, effective responses. Understanding where and why epidemics occur is essential. In 2015, I launched an initiative focused on mapping the distribution and determinants of epidemics across Africa. In complex and challenging times, true global health leadership requires competence, courage, and unwavering commitment. This is what drives effective crisis response. https://lnkd.in/dhHp6eyh https://lnkd.in/dCmRmhbJ

Today is International Day for Epidemic Preparedness, and at The FMRT Group, we recognize the importance of being ready for future health challenges. Epidemics can strike at any time and without warning. The ability to respond quickly and effectively can mean the difference between a contained health situation and a global crisis. The COVID-19 pandemic not only had a devasting impact on human lives but also disrupted long-term global, social, and economic development. This global health crisis exemplified the urgent need for resilient and robust healthcare systems, which is why the United Nations General Assembly created this day in December 2020 to better help with future preparedness. Preparedness is more than just having a plan. It is about building strong healthcare systems and emergency response systems, fostering international collaboration, and investing in research and methods that can help save lives if another epidemic occurs. These preparations can play a vital role in preventing the interruption of crucial basic services and allow for better and faster responses once an epidemic is detected. Together, we can learn from the lessons of the COVID-19 pandemic and work to invest in a universally resilient system. We know how to prepare for inevitable epidemics. Do we have the will and wisdom that it takes? Global health security is a relatively recent term, but we have a long history of experiencing, surviving and thankfully learning from global public health crises, shares Carolynn M. Poulsen. The recent monkeypox outbreak has shown how vulnerable our global health systems can be. According to research, the virus not only affected those infected but also disrupted healthcare resources and highlighted gaps in our preparedness for emerging diseases. Studies show that effective prevention and response depend on early detection and stronger collaboration between countries. On a personal level, this has made me think about how prepared we are for future health challenges. We need to learn from this experience and push for better global health strategies. It’s not just about controlling the virus; it’s about building systems that can prevent and manage future outbreaks more effectively. What are your thoughts on how we can improve our global response to health crises? #Monkeypox #PublicHealth #GlobalHealth #HealthResearch #HealthPost
