Sarah McIntosh, director of people at Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) England, told HR magazine employers must step up to support mental wellbeing around the holidays. She said: “While Christmas is an enjoyable time of the year for many, it’s important employers recognise some people find the festive period challenging for a variety of reasons. “From the cost of living crisis and the added pressure of gift giving and festive socials to increased loneliness during this time. Employers need to be mindful of these factors and adapt policies to help and support their people.” While Christmas is often described as the most wonderful time of the year, we know that it can be challenging for so many people and with the ongoing cost of living crisis, things may feel even harder this year. The financial impact of the festivities as well as the time off work can put additional pressures on many employees so it’s important that workplaces foster a safe and supportive working environment that gives employees the opportunity to say things are not okay and that they may need help. t Robertson Cooper, we empower Wellbeing Champions to serve as a first point of contact for their colleagues, offering support, promoting wellbeing initiatives, and ensuring everyone feels heard not just during the holidays, but all year round. By creating a network of champions, organisations build resilience, foster connection, and develop a culture of care that thrives beyond Christmas. #employeehealth #workplacewellbeing #festiveseason

𝑰𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒂𝒍 𝑷𝒍𝒂𝒏𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈: 𝑴𝒂𝒌𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑯𝒐𝒍𝒊𝒅𝒂𝒚 𝑴𝒂𝒈𝒊𝒄 𝑾𝒉𝒊𝒍𝒆 𝑺𝒆𝒓𝒗𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑻𝒆𝒙𝒂𝒔 The holiday season brings a familiar balancing act for those of us in public service. This year it’s especially true as many of us have to prepare for the upcoming legislative session that begins January 14th. I often think of my mother's words about the pressure to "make a happy Christmas" for the family. This is a sentiment that resonates deeply as we juggle increased workloads with cherished family traditions. As public servants, our service to the community doesn't pause for the holidays. My strategy? It’s compartmentalizing. I dedicate specific morning hours to work activities before my family wakes, preserving evenings for holiday moments. This approach has transformed how I manage both worlds. Through years of experience, I've learned that intentional planning makes both possible. It's not about choosing between work and family. It's about balance and creating space for both. We can honor our commitment to public service while preserving our wellbeing and family traditions. #WomenInGovernment #TexasLegislature #WorkLifeBalance #PublicService

As we approach Christmas Party Season, lets all take a step back and think how we can make these events even more inclusive and enjoyable for all! 🔵 Have you invited those employees on Maternity/Paternity/Parental Leave - lets face it they would probably welcome a few hours out of the house - plus its a great way to keep in touch and ease back into the workplace. 🔵 Have you invited those who don't work full time (and Friday's or day's that the parties fall on are not their normal working days) - lets not forget about and exclude flexible workers. 🔵 "Drinking Culture" is not as it used to be, many more of our teams don't drink. Make sure that you cater equally for those who don't drink when asking about dietary requirements as well! The same goes for cultural differences where alcohol isn't allowed. Maybe consider "Alcohol Free tables" at dinner when like minded people can sit together? Ultimately these events are a chance to unwind, and have fun as a team. Stay safe everyone and enjoy yourselves and celebrate those amazing achievements of the year. #Teamwork #Culture #Diversity #Inclusion #DontBeAGrinch

Christmas and the holiday season can be a stressful time for employees and employers alike. With workloads piling up, finances getting tight, family coming to stay, and school breaks impacting childcare arrangements—it’s safe to say Christmas comes with a few extra stressors. So, here are some tips for managing stress and ensuring you and your employees have a restful break. 1) Create a culture of switching off and reset your team Switching off on holiday is hard, especially if you manage a team or work in an industry where a full Christmas shutdown isn’t feasible. But having a minimum of three days over the Christmas period to forget about work will mean you and your team are far more productive and refreshed when you get back to it in January. Give your staff a break to allow them to focus on recharging for the new year. That way they’ll come back to work ready and prepared for whatever 2024 has in store. 2) Set the right boundaries It’s the most wonderful time of the year with work socials and parties galore! But make sure you have the right employee policies in place before you get too caught up in planning… Work celebrations like the Christmas party are a great opportunity to wind down and build a relationship with your employees. But they can also be unpredictable if alcohol is involved and could even lead to employee complaints and in extreme cases. 3) Manage vacation and flexible working requests fairly Even though you should have fair processes all year round it’s especially important at this time of year to make sure you’re handling vacations and requests for flexible working as fairly as possible. 4) Offer your staff wellbeing support Having access to an employee assistance program that allows staff, managers, and even business owners the chance to speak to a trained professional about the stress of the season can be indispensable this time of year. The Christmas period is not only stressful but can be a difficult time for those who have lost loved ones and are celebrating without them for the first time. #festivites #humanresources #Christmas #tips

As I was getting my oil changed at 8 am this morning...I was thinking... About how this country's approach to work and how it hasn't evolved with the times. "Back in the day", it was assumed that one member of the household stayed home while one person reported to work. Generally, it was the woman and man, respectively. Which meant the majority and errands and tasks needed for someone's livelihood could be taken care of between 9 am and 5 pm. But, now, it's more and more difficult for a two-income household to afford a house, childcare, life... So the idea that someone in a family isn't working is rare! But, most places are still only open "traditional" business hours. And I personally believe it's up to employers to meet this challenge by offering flexible work. I can't imagine working my ass off for 40 hours a week and then being expected to be on the go and filling up every hour on the weekend to accomplish life tasks. And I'm childless and single! I only have to worry about MY laundry and MY groceries and MY social life. With that being said, I'm grateful to the Valvoline in Rochelle Park for opening at 8 AM... ...but also for a team, manager and company culture that allows for getting a much needed oil change, even if means missing the morning huddle. #FlexibleWork #CompanyCulture #HR #HRConsulting
