With a 20 year old daughter, I'm a fan of a few artists that I wouldn't have been without her taking control of the music every time she hops into my car. 😂 One artist who has made the cut (I do veto those I really don't care for) is Mac Miller. And there's a line in one of his songs that has stuck with me since first hearing it .... "You better say that *ish with your chest." 💪🏼 While in a workshop last year about building a consulting business in the educational space, our instructor said pretty much the same thing ... "When you figure out your pricing, it better be a number you can say from your chest and with a straight face." ... which I've been working on ever since. Yesterday, someone who found the link to my assessments online emailed me and essentially said I was more expensive than the "other guys." I took a deep breath and then politely explained what was included in my price (a full debrief to make sure you understand the results) and shared another option for just a simple assessment without all of the bells and whistles. I also pitched a client yesterday for a full team assessment with 3 add on options and found an email in my inbox after lunch today that they wanted to move forward with EVERYTHING and asap. So my lesson today was a combination reminder that: 1. We're not for everyone, and that's ok. 2. Our price is our price, and as long as you can say it with your chest, those who value what you're bringing to the table will happily pay it. Here's to truly knowing your worth in the coming year and having the confidence to stand behind it.
