DEMAND SECURITY IS BAKED IN CONTRACTS FROM THE BEGINNING GET EVERYONE INVOLVED PEOPLE
VP Product - Frenos | Security Architect to Critical Infrastructure | Cyber Informed Engineering | Author | SANS SEC547 Defending Product Supply Chains Instructor
Require security from your suppliers before you buy and put it in the contract. That means security needs to insert themselves into the procurement process and get buy-in from executive management and budget owners. There's a lot of people talking about how their suppliers are not delivering secure products, but they (consumers) are not telling them (suppliers) what they want or expect. There are some basic things that should be baseline for any product, but there are also situations where security features require unusual investment and no clear ROI. In some cases, better security complicates the sale with unwanted feature complexity and increased cost. If you want your product supplier to do better, put it in the contract. I promise you, their sales team wants to close the deal and if that requirement is standing in the way of them hitting sales numbers this quarter, they will be your strongest ally. It's also a strong signal to product management, that this is what their target customers want. Without this signaling, they may not know that they need to prioritize it. #productsecurity #supplychainsecurity

After advice - I'll have to edit this post! Many years ago got offered and accepted a GM role for a prominent 3PL. First jobs were - slightly iffy sorting out issues none of their other GMs couldn't handle - couldn't face. Worst one - direct instruction from a Senior Director- I quote : " Go to Ireland ,blame the customer and don't get blone up" Involved some very prominent people - sorted it. Move forward - 2 sites - failing - for a prominent supermarket- tilurn these round. The sites had no investment- falling apart- crap facilities- crap management- took them from worst to best in the network- upset the customer ops directors so much at every monthly meeting the GMs of the other sites *falling way behind I performance) used to say " we love they pick on you and leave us alone" Had no support from my company as they were all mates. Made an error and under reported a weekly report by £7k - was my mistake a TEMP supplier. Sacked. Hmm - my error - held my hand up - MY supposed senior management didn't support me and went with the customer. Strange thing - a bit later thst same customer employed me to get them out of a massive F##J up. Lesson - trust friends you know - not scared people saving themselves!

If you are going to pay sales reps good money to acquire new customers You better back it up with just as good, if not better, account management! Especially in the 3PL space. I'm convinced that brands often stay with their 3PL provider not because of the sales rep who brought them on, but those who actively manage the day to day account. Shoutout to the 3PL reps who are responsible for bringing on AND retaining clients. You the real ballers. #3PL #ecommerce
