As we look towards the future, it's essential to recognize the potential of this great continent. Bless their hearts( some of my friends), but It's important to note that Africa is not a country, but rather a continent made up of 54 distinct and unique countries. Sudan's ongoing conflict demands urgent attention, with millions affected and a dire need for humanitarian assistance. In January, African Union appointed a high-level panel on Sudan, led by Mohamed Ibn Chambas, to tackle the crisis head-on. Despite challenges, including various diplomatic setbacks, the Panel’s constitution signals a renewed commitment by the AU to finding lasting solutions to the conflict. Chambas' deep understanding of Sudan's complexities offers hope for progress. However, skepticism persists about the Panel’s political leverage and ability to bring key stakeholders to the table. The Panel has already concluded its first shuttle diplomacy mission (in Port Sudan, Cairo, Addis Ababa, and Djibouti), engaging General al-Burhan, General Hemedti’s representatives, IGAD chair and Executive Secretary, and a wide range of political and civilian stakeholders. Direct engagement with Sudanese leaders, reconvening the Jeddah talks, coordinating all regional and international diplomatic efforts underway, and an inclusive political process are crucial steps towards forging a path to peace and ending Sudan’s devastating war and its associated humanitarian crisis. The current agreement ends in 2025, necessitating discussions on renewal and changes to the structure. During the 8th Summit of the Three Seas Initiative in #Bucharest, the capital of Romania 🇷🇴 (September 6–7, 2023), Greece 🇬🇷 joined the Three Seas Initiative (3SI) 🌊. Thus, the Hellenic Republic became the 13th member of this regional format in Central and Southeastern Europe. Greece's joining the Three Seas Initiative changed the internal environment of 3SI. Therefore, due to this extension, the 3SI region has a chance to implement a larger number of joint projects 🇦🇹🇧🇬🇭🇷🇨🇿🇪🇪🇬🇷🇭🇺🇱🇹🇱🇻🇵🇱🇷🇴🇸🇰🇸🇮 Moreover, the area now has a much larger external neighbourhood, especially to the Western Balkans 🇦🇱🇲🇰 and Turkey 🇹🇷. It also gained direct proximity to the Mediterranean, Ionian and Aegean Seas. The importance of Greece 🇬🇷 within the trans-regional infrastructure connections of the Three Seas Initiative should also be considered in terms of the routes that run through Africa, the Middle East, India 🇮🇳 and China 🇨🇳 If you are interested in international affairs and the potential evolution of the Initiative after Greece joins it 🇬🇷, I invite you to read my article (in English) for the collective issue of Analyzing Global Responses to Contemporary Regional Conflicts. For those of you who may not know, just like the European Union or ASEAN, CARICOM is the Cultural and Economic Zone of the Caribbean 🌎🏝️. Its mandate is to improve the quality of life for the people across its Member States and foster regional integration for sustainable development. CARICOM consists of twenty-one countries—fifteen Member States and six Associate Members—spanning from The Bahamas in the north to Suriname and Guyana in South America. It’s a dynamic region, home to about 16 million citizens, with over 60% under the age of 30. Culturally rich and diverse, the Community reflects the heritage of Indigenous Peoples, Africans, Indians, Europeans, Chinese, Portuguese, Javanese, and more. CARICOM’s origins go back to efforts at regional integration dating from the West Indies Federation to CARIFTA, culminating in establishing the Caribbean Community in 1973. The revised 2002 Treaty further aimed to integrate its members through a single market and economy.
