For the culturally curious & the art enthusiasts 🎨 The Galway International Arts Festival has launched and this week had us out mixing & mingling at the official opening of The Festival Gallery. Following on from our sponsorship of the Festival Gallery in 2023, The Dean Galway has continued to support this year and we were delighted to kick off the celebrations and raise a glass to all artists & curators who also launched their exhibitions. The Festival Gallery returns to the Galway International Arts Festival line up at William Street, Galway, and showcases work by sculptor Patricia Piccinini, one of Australia’s most acclaimed artists, who has received worldwide attention for her startling sculptures, installations and digital environments. The Festival Gallery is a temporary gallery space constructed by Galway International Arts Festival. The Festival often employs a strategy of converting unique disused buildings into stunning exhibition spaces. Fancy checking it out? The Festival Gallery is located on William Street & the entrance is just behind the bronze sculptures of Oscar Wilde and Eduard Vilde. https://lnkd.in/ddRj6-fW

MUST READ: "How much should museums pay artists for events such as the Whitney Biennial?" Compensating participants for group exhibitions is an important but taboo subject, as is the fee amount institutions provide. "The idea that artists should be compensated for providing their work to a museum exhibition has been broadly recognised only within the past several years, sources say. Alternative art spaces and kunsthalles were early adopters; large collecting institutions came around more slowly. According to conventional wisdom, museum exposure helps artists sell their work outside the institution’s walls. Museums’ money, or so the traditional way of thinking goes, is better spent buying and preserving art than paying extra for temporary shows. But artists and activists point out that this approach ignores the substantial time and effort required to work with museums—labour for which everyone else involved, from the curator to the studio manager, is compensated. Beneath the basic questions about baseline fees are even more complicated ones concerning how different kinds of art are funded and valued. Should artists who make large-scale video installations or deeply researched conceptual projects get the same fee as those who create market-friendly paintings? Should artists who lack commercial-gallery representation get a greater share? What is to stop high-profile artists from demanding a disproportionately high fee? On the other hand, might a curator be tempted to stack the deck with artists represented by blue-chip galleries, which are likely to help pay the production costs?" #art #whitneybiennial #artists #curators #museums #exhibition #contemporaryart #usa #biennial

Dear friends, friends Visual artists and members of KONSFARM ART ATELIER NÖ /Konstantina Farmaki I have good news for you! In March we go to PALMA DE MALLORCA !!! Let's travel "A GREECE LIGHT" but with "Aroma of a Woman" this time. Let's get to know Palma de Mallorca and the CASA DE CULTURA in the Medieval City of Santanyi in the Balearic Islands where we will exhibit our works, adding to the activities of the cultural center one more. The presentation of a major International exhibition of visual arts With the participation of renowned artists with international recognition. So hurry up... THE BUILDING OF THE CASA DE CULTURA is built on an old lagoon, whose land was owned by the Santanyí town council 200 years ago, the house was acquired by the council to become a cultural center. Since its inauguration in December 2011, it has presented an attractive program revolving around activities related to art, literature and music. The town on the southeast coast of Mallorca was first mentioned in a document in 1236 under the name Sancti Aini. In 1300 Santanyi received city rights. Santanyi is a small town in the southeast of Mallorca that has retained its original Mallorcan charm to this day. The Mediterranean beaches are four kilometers from the city center. At first glance, Santanyi seems to be in one piece. The cityscape is characterised by medieval and modern buildings made of golden-yellow Mares sandstone. The sandstone is quarried exclusively in the area around Santanyi and gives the town its distinctive appearance. Atmospheric contrasts arise when green palm leaves sway gently in the wind in the town’s main square, Plaça Major, in front of the colourful house facades and the blue sky. At the end of the 19th century, around 5,500 people lived in Santanyi. The population was poor but this changed with the rise of tourism in the 1960s. Many wealthy Spaniards from the mainland built holiday homes around the small town and the first Europeans also moved to the sunny Balearic island. WHAT DO YOU SAY…WILL YOU COME EXPLORE WITH US? Applications for participation no later than 31/12/2024. to E-Mail: kunsthistorikerin10356@gmail.com

The auction house shares the excess proceeds over the guarantee with the museum, even if the object is not purchased by the museum! - Why? Isn't the seller asked whether he agrees to this "guarantee" or agreement? Since when do museums determine the “pleasant” prices for them in a “free” market? Do their curators also have experience in the art trade? And they practically confirm the authenticity with a guarantee, which doesn't always have to be correct. And name the price, like an all-knowing “price god”. In one hand? Strange. The museum becomes an auction house without a license to auction... Does the additional proceeds shared benefit the taxpayer or the general public? Difficult decisions in the “art circus”. Museums should better focus on their original mission and not worry about making more and more profit.
