BEYOND THE BOWL OF AMALA......
I was privileged to attend a business event organised by #fatefoundation sometime last month. It was an impromptu decision I made to attend, but it was absolutely worth my every minute. My belly was not only fed, my journey to fulfilling purpose was fueled too.
Some key life lessons I gathered are:
📌scale up else, you'll be gobbled up
📌look outside your front door in order to stay in business
📌leverage on partnership and sponsorship for business growth
📌attack is the best form of defence
📌without cost discipline, your business will fail
These are golden nuggets to hold on to as an individual or for one's career, brand, or business.

The story below is from our project Badhte Kadam a programme borne out of a need to pivot on our strategy for the Education portfolio which was the most severely hit during COVID19 impacted by the extended school closures. While remote learning solutions seemed like the need of the hour in a country fraught with digital poverty this could possibly not be our only response. It became clear that not only was the pandemic a health crisis it was an equally devastating economic crisis especially for the most vulnerable. The Foundation decided to rethink its decision to not do scholarships as it was evident that financial stress was bound to impact continuation of education for many of our children. Starting with a fully flexible, exclusively need based financial aid in the first year Badhte Kadam evolved over 3 years to continued support for students based on merit and need.
The programme reached nearly 7,000 students a scale that was enabled by the systems and strong outreach of our partner Buddy4Study India Foundation. However for me it was the validation calls that I did as part of our pre disbursement process that helped me connect with the families that we were reaching. Whether it was a single mother fighting to keep her kids in school or students who displayed amazing grit in the face of adversity to reach for their dreams. In the fray of scale, system level change we often diss the impact of individual aid in times of crisis. It may not be the long term solution but in extraordinary circumstances and to support life altering needs it has value and a place in philanthropy that should not be ignored or denied.
We promised you a walk down memory lane and we start today. These are just a few of the many impactful stories that have stayed with us and have become part of us through the last 10 years of our work. A salute to the last decade these 10 stories highlight lives, communities, and systems impacted across the country. Discover how Yash and Yashi received merit-based scholarships through our partner, Buddy4Study!

Unlocking Potential with Culturally Relevant Curriculum for African-American Youth
As we continue to strive for educational equity, the importance of culturally relevant curriculum for African-American youth cannot be overstated. When students see themselves and their heritage reflected in their education, it sparks engagement, fosters pride, and cultivates a deeper connection to learning.
Statistics Speak Volumes
- According to a study by the National Education Association (NEA), African-American students in culturally relevant programs have a 24% higher graduation rate compared to those in traditional settings.
- The same study reports a 20% increase in student participation and engagement.
- Critical thinking skills improve significantly, with a 15% higher performance in problem-solving tasks.
Critical Thinking and Individualized Learning
Culturally relevant education not only boosts academic achievement but also enhances critical thinking. When students analyze and engage with material that resonates with their experiences, they develop a stronger capacity for critical analysis and independent thought.
Individualized learning strategies further amplify these benefits. Tailoring education to meet the unique needs of each student ensures that no one is left behind. This approach respects each learner's pace, strengths, and areas for growth, creating a more effective educational environment.
Embracing "Unschooling"
The concept of "unschooling," or learner-directed education, complements culturally relevant curricula. By allowing students to pursue their interests and learn through experiences that matter to them, we nurture a love for learning and curiosity that extends beyond the classroom.
Real Stories, Real Impact
We’ve seen firsthand the transformative power of this approach at The Uhuru Academy. Watch this parent testimonial to see how culturally relevant education has impacted their child’s journey: https://lnkd.in/ev8kJP3y
Together, we can unlock the full potential of our youth and pave the way for a brighter future.
