"We've just completed a strategic planning process and are now hiring a Director of Development to increase our revenue to support our growth." ❌ If you don't have a fundraising team in place, you need to hire a fundraiser or a consultant BEFORE you start your strategic plan. They can assess your current fundraising efforts, determine what realistic and sustainable growth looks like, map the cost of your programs to funding opportunities, talk to current funders, and make sure that your strategic plan isn't going to be a pipe dream. Spending months on a strategic plan and then shopping it around to funders to see who will bite isn't going to work. I will never understand how organizations that are so concerned about raising money treat fundraising like an after thought. ... To my LinkedIn colleagues. I have been a fundraiser for a long time where I am always building relationships, working cross-functionally, and designing strategic appeals for all stages of the donor lifecycle. I realized my happy place is when I wear my hat as a systems thinker and navigate complexity. Where I can bridge diverse fields, connect the dots, navigate complexity, and simplify intricate ideas into clear, actionable Spotting blind spots or holes in the overall "system" is second nature as I see the "whole picture" and the circulatory process. (Like donor lifecycles). I may sound like a broken record, but what jobs or job titles should I look for where raising money is not necessarily the end goal? I'm not particularly in love with high-tech or healthcare systems but I am open...Can you help me identify "who" and "what industry" needs this? You can have a real impact, bringing much needed skills, experience and independent scrutiny to a charity that needs it. 2. With a really manageable commitment of three or four days spread over a year, most people can make time (and will enjoy it). 3. You will get governance experience which could help prepare you for a NED career. 4. You will potentially learn about (and enjoy) a new sector. 5. Most committee meetings are done remotely so you can attend them from the comfort of your own home or office. 6. You will enjoy it! If your job has industry standard metrics include those on your resume! For example: in fundraising it's standard to track how much a gift officer has raised YTD. That means hiring manager would be interested in reviewing that information during the hiring process. *Manage a portfolio of 100 households. OR *Manage a portfolio of 100 households with capacity to give $25,000+. Raised $100k in FY23, $250K in FY24 and projected to raise $300k in FY25. Which bullet gives a better picture of your work and success?

If your operations team is lean, they might feel like they're juggling everything from A to Z—𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘦𝘧 𝘤𝘰𝘰𝘬 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘣𝘰𝘵𝘵𝘭𝘦 𝘸𝘢𝘴𝘩𝘦𝘳, anyone?
