Not long ago, someone messaged me asking, “Hey, how are things going with X at Dodonut.com?” It made me realize they hadn’t noticed that we stopped investing in dodonut.com back in January. Dodonut was our project focused on the sustainable web—a niche and community I’m still passionate about. We kept the site up, and people are still reading our blog and sending us messages saying they love the content. But business is business, and most of our customers come from @Bejamas. So we decided to streamline our marketing and teams, and now we operate exclusively under the Bejamas name. Can I call Dodonut a failure? Maybe, but I prefer to think of it as a cool journey. The fact that someone didn’t notice we stopped developing the project ten months ago suggests it was the right move. Plus, our customers aren’t confused anymore about who Dodonut is versus Bejamas. So, what are the results? Now, we think as one team to deliver the best for our customers. Although design is its own tribe, we’re working more closely together, which benefits everyone. Previously, having separate subprojects just for design created a barrier—design and development were like entirely separate departments. But in real life, it doesn’t work that way. By bringing everything under Bejamas, we’ve eliminated that barrier. Our teams collaborate more effectively, and our customers reap the benefits.

Building Apps No One Needs: A Reminder of Simple Truths for Better Results This recent article on Medium by Pol Alvarez Vecino reminded me of some fundamental principles we often overlook in our quest for innovation and efficiency: - Dangers of solution-first thinking: In rushing to implement ideas, it is easy to overlook better alternatives that could have been discovered. - Dogfooding isn't enough: While using our own products is valuable, it's crucial to remember that we're not always representative of our end users. - Avoid over-engineering: It's easy to get caught up in the excitement of new technologies or complex solutions. However, the best approach is usually the simplest one that effectively addresses the actual need. - Start with simple, familiar tools: Simple tools enables clearer thinking, where more complex tools just get in the way.
