Anyone really taken in by #buzzwords and #slogans or is THE point they become so ingrained in the mind that we become convinced they are happening? The Saatchi brothers for Mrs Thatcher were followed by Alistair Campbell and Peter (now Lord) Mandelson as the original “spin doctors”. Today’s incumbents to power have bombarded us with 2 words that now resonate around my head: #Change and #Growth have been the written “bullets” behind Keir Starmer’s victory (as well as 8 years of Tory infighting)! For me #actions will always speak louder than words. Angela Raynor’s first action as a Minister is to get rid of “Levelling Up“ from her ministry, saying “no more government by gimmick” #UKhousing At the same time, Chancellor Rt Hon Rachel Reeves first speech focused on planning amongst its key themes. Green is now Grey in order to allow development/building to take place - the irony being that it is linked to the “Green” agenda of Renewable Energy. So it’s a different shade of Green that we are being asked to look at! The key to this is, how is all the “Change” going to be paid for. Michael C. analysis says “Private investment is the key…(Raynor’s) speech was peppered with references to the need for such capital to flow into British 🇬🇧 #businesses, #infrastructure, and other productive projects. But….there's no sign yet of any further reforms in the financial services sector…..#Media questions asked Reeves specifically about the much-publicised issues with UK 🇬🇧 #publicmarkets and new listings and about the 'British ISA' but she gave both a very wide berth.” Charlie Conchie of City AM reported that one year on from the “Mansion House Compact” there is a “secret meeting” taking place with “plans for the British Business Bank to launch a vehicle to funnel cash from #pensionfunds into growth #technology companies has been unsettled by the early #election. An original timeline to submit plans to the regulator in July has been kicked back until at least the Autumn to give the new business secretary, Jonathan Reynolds MP time to feed into and sign off on the scheme Progress in unlocking cash to flow into start-ups has been minimal.” One to sort and fast: Cost Disclosures for Members of the The Association of Investment Companies (AIC). Richard Stone says resolving the issue of double-counting could be an early win for the new government. But as Ros Altmann says, “the AIC needs to clarify what it is actually proposing…The mis-labelling of the 'OCF'…is at the heart of this problem. #investors have lost serious sums of #money as a result of this error, it is directly against the Financial Conduct Authority’s '#consumerduty'. https://lnkd.in/eb2tRw5j Disclose. Don’t Double Count. One thing for sure, a familiar call to Reeves and Starmer is getting louder: Change https://lnkd.in/eTHTbGs4 🤔🇬🇧 Ben Conway David Appleton James de Bunsen, CFA Tom Poynton Tom Harris Sharon Bowles
