We recently put together House of Vans – one of the most intricate and important projects The Bread has worked on – bringing together a brand we love and a culture we believe in to create a valuable medium for both parties. Whether it was crafting immersive experiences, capturing the vibe, or showcasing the culture, every detail reflected our passion for storytelling. I wrote a signal for Canvas8 on the increasing popularity of 'adult-oriented extravagance' #events like fantasy-themed balls and masquerades where #costumed participants dress up and rub elbows with characters from their favourite novels or simply enjoy the #fantasy setting as observers. #Socialmedia, and particularly #BookTok's passionate #fandom communities around romance and fantasy, further fuels this shift. “Everyone I went with I had met online, and it’s full of people who met through these #niches,” said Holly Simone, a 26-year-old Londoner who found out about fantasy-themed balls through BookTok.“ The atmosphere was incredible, girls were just complimenting each other. It’s just incredible to be a part of a community that is full of #positivity, not just online, but also in person.” Capitalising on this unique niche within the global events industry – projected to reach $2 billion by 2032 – event companies are leveraging social media to tap into post-pandemic shifts in priorities among #GenY and #GenZ, who now value experiences that foster #escape and community over material possessions. For example, Eudantria Events promises highly immersive fictional storylines for guests to follow, and its website offers an original #worldbuilding guide complete with unique lore and character archetypes that help people truly part in their favourite books. Brands can take inspiration from events like the immersive #Bridgertonball that combines book and Netflix fandom, while the recently opened #DisneylandHotel invites guests to immerse themselves in royal #Disney stories, combined with unparalleled hospitality, fine dining, and uniquely Disney entertainment.
