Here is what we came up with: - A great boss that is well developed and knowledgeable - Feeling that you are valuable to the success of the organization (knowing that you matter) - Making an impact on the local community (or even the world!) - Great personal relationships (friendships) with people at work - Fair and consistent treatment and consideration Do you agree or disagree with these? After much consideration, I've decided to share my experience at Firehouse Subs located at 3065 Howard Ave, Windsor, ON N8X 3Y9 highlighting concerning workplace practices that need addressing. Recently, I decided to leave this environment due to its toxic nature and unfair treatment. Some of the distressing practices include: - Forcing employees to clock out and stay behind until sales improve, citing inflated labor costs. - Last-minute cancellations of scheduled shifts under the guise of surplus staffing have been a common occurrence. - Compelling employees to sign contracts promising increased hours, only to see their shifts reduced without valid explanations. - Providing unpaid training to new hires and then letting them go if deemed unsuitable, resulting in wasted time and effort. - Listening to employees' conversations through the camera, invading their privacy and creating an atmosphere of distrust. -Urgently calling employees for unscheduled shifts and, if they refuse for any reason, reducing their hours in the following week as a form of retaliation. These actions are unacceptable under Canadian employment law and violate basic labor rights. Requiring all employees to clock in during inspections to conceal malpractices is both illegal and unethical. I urge organizations like Firehouse Subs and Steritech to re-evaluate policies, ensuring fair treatment for all employees. It's essential to create an inclusive workplace adhering to Canadian employment standards. Do you have a favourite quote? I think quotes are powerful. Small snippets of wisdom which can remind us of our values and core identity. This one from Eleanor Roosevelt is one of my favourite ones. It always reminds me of how important Safeguarding is for protecting people from harm. #safeguarding practitioners are often the only people present in the small spaces where harm occurs. Behind the door, in the kitchen, at school or in hospital we create safety by listening and hearing.
