Air University’s Post

The U.S. Air Force is reintroducing warrant officers after a 65-year hiatus to enhance its cyber and IT capabilities. The aim is to strengthen its position in digital warfare, particularly in the context of strategic competition with China. These #warrant officers will be a critical link between warfighters and leadership on technical issues, acting as professionals, technical integrators, and trusted advisors. Their specialized expertise will give the Air Force a competitive edge in the rapidly evolving digital domain. The Air Force's Warrant Officer Training School at Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama, has developed an eight-week program to train these individuals, focusing on five foundational principles: communicate, advise, influence, innovate, and integrate. This initiative reflects the Air Force's commitment to adapting its force structure to meet the demands of modern warfare and to counter the digital strategies employed by adversaries like China effectively.
